Hard work, skill and talent should be the answer right?

or is it common interest? would you choose a peice you prefer over a peice that has more time and dedication into it to be the better peice?

Would you choose a friends artwork over someone elses even if it's not as good, in your opinion?

do you think you are using the correct judging preferences when comparing two or more peices?

do you even consider the hard work put into a peice as judging material?

I've just noticed how some people are judging what makes good art, and i wanted to know anyone's veiw on this.

I guess i'm not really looking for answers, but it would be great to get some. But i wanted this to cross your minds for a while. Are you judging art the right way?

I don't judge art as good. Not publicly, anyway. Not usually. Because it all changes what's good depending on who's looking.

I do know, however, what makes bad art. And approximate 80% of FAC constitutes as such. Although this is a subjective subject, too.

Basically, anything is good as long as it doesn't fall into the category of "bad". :x Bad being pencil doodles that were done by what appeares to be 8 year olds. If it's realism or anime, the anatomy has to be relatively correct. Etc, etc.

I like it to be original. By original, I mean in style, subject matter, comedy, or a combination of. It doesn't have to be, but that's what I like to see. I'm not sure how I define good art. I'll just see a picture, and I may or may not think "That's good art!"
There really isn't a guideline. I'm not the Salon. I just... know good art when I see it.

And, of course, my tastes will be different from others. Like I HATE the big-eyed-tiny-mouth-dot-nose anime look, but other people love it. :/

But, like Fayore, I do know bad art. And it is most of FAC. Laughing

I doubt my opinion on 'art' is really valid at all, considering the term is overused and has basically lost all credibility. But, 'art', I think, is something of high quality, that many people from different styles and media can say 'Wow, that's good.' without putting alot of thought into it. Of course, I suppose people could say analysm of art is an art in itself, but that's a completely different thing.

analizing art doesnt need to be complicated enough to be called an 'art in itself', i just want to know if you think it's right to decide a crappy pic of your favorite thing in the world is better than a very detailed peice of a poor subject matter done by a very skilled artist.

It doesn't matter if the person is "SUPER DUPER ^___^", if their picture sucks, it sucks. I'd much rather comment on a picture I like from a person I don't, rather than lie about a friend's crappy picture.

You could have been more specific with the topic question, this is more a question of judgement over quality. :\

And yet you titled the topic 'What makes good art', as if it would have been a unanimous idea. :\
