Oh man I'm sorry I was gone so long. I've been busy with school and stuff.

Anyyywayyyy. I didn't like ToP, even by yesteryear's standards it just bored the hell out of me. Crappy gameplay, more encounters than Legendia- you do the math. It's freaking awesome if you cream your panties every time you hear the word "Symphon[ia]y" in a sentence..but, just from a general standpoint I thought it sucked. If you want to get a good taste of "Retro Tales", Destiny is awesome.

THe best part of the game overall was just making fun of it. The characters were pretty cool at times, though--

Both ToD and ToP are real time. ToD's characters were freaking awesome (except Leon. GOD SHUTUPLEON, YOU SUCKED STOP WINNING THE POPULARITY CONTEST YOU BUCKET OF FAIL AND HAVING A HOT SISTER.) and..well..I don't remember the plot? WHO BUYS TALES GAMES FOR THE STORYLINE ANYWAY GOD.

For what it was worth, anyway. Rebirth's is kinda cute, too.

Though I think the thing that really catches people is the characters, not so much the storyline.

Then again, a lot of the characters are kinda stereotypical, too. :\

...Well, the games are a lot better than some of the other drivel out there, lol.

Sadly enough, not far at all. XD Though I did randomly spend a week on it and I got 25 hours closer to the ending; I think that's pretty good.

I think they'll have a chance on getting finished some time soon; I've decided not to buy any more games after the spring quarter's over. Whether I'll keep that resolve or not is another matter, but I think I've got a good chance (going into university in fall and I don't really want to screw up in there Blah

;; )... I've been starting to finish all my unfinished games, at any rate. Two down and 1239821 to go! T_T

Hmm, Rebirth's battle system...

The battle setup is like a mix of Symphonia's and older ones, like Phantasia and Destiny's. Uh... my usual set-up was something like:

---A--------------------------X--X--
---M-------V--------------X----X---
---------E------------------X----X--

Where A=Annie, M=Mao, V=Veigue, E=Eugene, X=enemy. (I guess this wasn't really necessary, but okay. XD) You fight on a single line at a time (like in Phantasia) but you can switch between the lines (which gets really useful if you're trying to evade an enemy. Ah, weaving). Of course, since the enemies can do the same thing, this means that you have to be mare careful with backlines (healer, mage, etc) but that's not usually a problem. The AI is kinda stupid sometimes, though I've noticed that they really like to surround characters. T_T Since characters flinch when hit, it kinda sucks when enemies on either side start alternating hits. :\ Switching lines kinda pulls you out, though.

TP points are gone, so you can more or less spam special skills every battle, lol. You can attach skills to the four D-pad buttons and each slot adds something special to the attack, like... If I use a skill that's attached to the down button on the D-pad, I'll recover a small percentage of the damage dealt if that attack connects (I'm not really sure how much, maybe 5-10%?).

The skills aren't completely mastered just by using them, either. I don't remember if Symphonia was like this, but in Phantasia, if you wanted to learn an Ougi, you had to use the parent skills a set number of times in battle. In Rebirth, everytime you use a skill successfully, you get a point for that skill. To get Ougis, you can spend those points on another ability. It doesn't always take points from just two skills, sometimes it takes them from a whole bunch of different skills. You have to be past a certain number of levels to learn them, too. :B I guess with the point system, it forces you to use skills throughout the game instead of just mastering them for an ougi then dumping them. XD;

There's also another gauge called the Rush Gage and it goes up when you attack. When it's high, it's called a "Rush Charge" and basically attack power is heightened but defense goes down. If the gauge is low, it's called a "Cool Charge" and defence is heightened. You can force the gauge to go up or down without attacking (thankfully!) which is pretty useful since a bunch of bosses can easily overpower you if you're not being careful. x_x Can't even guess how many times I died fighting Militsa and... this one other major, er, boss whose name I can't quite remember at the moment... lol. Just because I kept forgetting to make use of Cool Charges and defending ~~although I will probably admit that my main problem was that I hadn't read the manual and I didn't know how to switch lines~~. :\ Once Veigue dies, the whole party is pretty much dead, lol.

Or maybe I just suck too much. Not really sure, hmm...

Ahh, thanks a lot, Fayore!! @_@ Huh, that's interesting. Dunno if you ever played Legendia, but besides Symphonia and Abyss, it's the only Tales game I've played, and the battle system seems closest to that one. Huh, it's interesting. :3

Yeah, I've played Legendia. Bought it a long time ago, though I've never gotten around to finishing it. :\ I think I pretty much know what the rest of the storyline is (accidentally saw a movie of the ending and, well... XD)

Legendia's battle system most closely resembles the original LMBS from Phantasia/Destiny, I think.

And yes. Abyss. Is nowhere near finished. I still haven't touched it from the last time I mentioned it to you guys. Though that's not nearly as pathetic as some of my other games; I've had Suikoden V for nearly a year now and it's still not out of the plastic wrapper seal thing. XD

I think my problem is that I have an addictive personality. I love collecting things, but not actually doing anything else with them. :s

And, sadly...I, um...haven't finished Abyss either. However, I'm hoping to manage that this summer. I have decided this is the Summer of Finishing Video Games...I finished La Pucelle, Rhapsody and Disgaea 2 are next on my list, and then comes Abyss and Grandia 1.

Speaking of Abyss, though, the Rebirth thing about putting your Techs on different buttons to make them do different things sounds oddly similar to the Abyss Chamber system...in a weird kind of way.

The characters may be kind of cliche, but the thing Tales does right is still throw in some funny quirks. Like Raine. Yes, she's a typical healer...but she goes ruin-insane and sidekicks people. Or Genis. Yes, he's a typical magic-user...but he uses a _KENDAMA_.

Psychotic quirks = win ~.^

I still haven't played any Abyss~ I'll probably work on it sometime later this summer (I have piles and piles of games I need to finish, too XD; )

I've been enjoying other games recently (OH ATLUS AND NIS HOW I LOVE YOU SO) - like Odin Sphere (most beautiful PS2 game, EVER) and Shadow Hearts (old, but I really like the storyline and it's got an interesting turn-based battle system). I have to start Atelier Iris 3, too - bought it on the day it came out... XD; Grim Grimoire's shipping today, too! ~<333

I don't own La Pucelle, but I will soon. >8) There's a store online selling copies of it for $30, so... ~<3 Waiting for it to come in now, hee~

I'm planning on finishing Tales of Rebirth sometime this week, eee~ *_*; And I might try Symphonia again after that... Or maybe Abyss! I don't know. XD;

(Not in university yet, but I will be soon! HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION IN TWO DAYS LOL)

I have completed ToS, though! At least, my friend and I did. I'm still playing through on mine, where I'm actually trying to get everything. Lessee...where am I in mine...? I think I just defeated Luna. I actually can't remember...it's been months since I actually got to play TT.TT But I have at least finished it once. So that's one I can cross off the list.

I'm working on Abyss, I swear! ^.^; But Abyss just doesn't grab me the same way Symphonia did. Symphonia addicted me. I was thinking about it every spare moment I wasn't playing it. Abyss...is just kind of there...which is not to say it isn't good. It just doesn't charm me the same.

I'm sorry I've been gone so long, though >_<

I will admit, the bestiary for Symphonia could have been a little more varied. It was kind of a pity, because a battle system that great deserved better challengers...but at the same time, the battle system was so great that I think the substandard monsters can be forgiven. It's just fun to beat on them.

The Symphonia sequel ~~may~~ WILL feature cameos of Symphonia's characters, but as far as I know the playable characters are going to be all-new.

Also, Namco.ch has announced that Rebirth is their last "true" 2D Tales game, so we won't be seeing anymore of that. A pity. =( But! Since Tales of the World recently made it over here, there's a chance that Rebirth will, as well! There isn't much competition for RPGs on the PSP so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. *flail* I suddenly have undying love for my PSP! *squee*

They've also said that the DS will be their main Tales platform from now on, so if you don't have one yet (like me), you'd better think about getting one soon! (I guess next-gen is just too hard/expensive to develop for?)

ETA: Tentative release dates:
