I've been having problems with submittin my art to Fanart Central. I can't submitt my art obviously. The size is under 300k but it keeps saying that it's too big. I've seen everyother user have pictures submitted that big and they went through fine. I have no cookies or anything.
What the hell is going on? Oh please help and idiot out. Banghead

In whatever program you are using to draw/scan your pic, select "file -- save as". If you have the option of "save for web" instead, use it. That's about it.

You are asking a very broad question. Tell us more about the tools you are using.

ETA: Oh, and it's considered bad form to derail someone else's thread for your own problems. Start your own thread.

MedalMask, you've been around for a while so I apologize if you've checked all of this already...

1) Have you tried submitting a smaller version of your pic, just to test? That way you'd know if the problem really is the size or not.

2) Are you sure you have saved the pic as a .jpg and not merely renamed the pic? Renaming something to "blablabla.jpg" does not change the file type.

3) Have you tried submitting any other pic, just to test? That way you'd know if the problem is with your account itself.

4) Have you tried to submit over a period of time? Maybe there was a problem with the servers when you tried.

5) What is the file size in terms of dimensions? Maybe there is a limit to how big (in height and lenght) a pic can be, I don't know, but it's worth checking out.

ETA: 6) One I just thought about... Are you sure you are selecting the pic to upload? I know I name my photoshop files the same as the finished product, and depending on how my options are set-up, the icon may display the same. Maybe you have selected a different file than intended?

1) Yes, but it was way to small, all the details were than pretty messed up.

2)Yes I have, I know how to change file formats

3)Yes, I've tried submitting others and they had failed before. I've tried at least 5 times with 5 new pictures that submitted smoothly on DA (whatever that had to do with anything)

4)Yes, for about 2 weeks and through that time all submissions were not accepted

5)It's about 800X600, that's atleast 278k or more or less, I can't remember.

6)Yes I'm sure that I want the picture to upload, that's the only button there.

Locate and review your JPEG compression options. An 800x600 JPG should be able to fit under 100k-150kb, you shouldn't need the full 300kb to save it.

What again was the error message exactly?

Try opening and saving your image using a different program.

The message error was saying that the file was too big.

What other program could I use?

Occasionally, some programs will save their files a different 'flavor' of the same format as other programs, which can potentially cause problems with other programs.

If that is the case, then all you can do is save it using a different program. Here's one I use:

http://www.el-tra.com/tools.htm -> http://www.el-tra.com/lviewpro.zip

LView Pro, v1.D2 is an older version, but I like it mostly because it can do (static) GIF's, JPEG's, and TWAIN scanner access. Plus, since it's a small filesize, the program starts up very quickly... unlike its newer, more powerful, and 21-day trialware versions.

Well, assuming you d/l'ed it, unzipped/installed, and tried running it, here's a few tips for operating LView Pro:

- The main window tends to automatically resize itself with whatever image you're currently viewing. When the window is tiny, the menu captions automatically abridge to "F" (File), "E" (Edit), "R" (Retouch), and "H" (Help).
- Many of the menu functions can be accessed directly with the keyboard, without need for holding down Ctrl, Alt, etc. This may catch you by surprise the first few times.
- Hit 'T' to toggle the toolbar on/off. The toolbar is just shortcuts to most of the menu commands.
- Hit "O" to load an image, "S" to save the current image, "A" to display the Save As box. Uses the standard Windows dialog box interface, plus an extra tab for an automatic image preview option.
- Use File > Properties (keyboard: P ) to adjust LView's program options. On the 'Interace' options tab, I recommend switching "Window auto-resize" OFF. However, you'll need to go to the "Options" tab and hit "Save all options!" before closing the Properties dialog.
- Properties dialog has an entire tab dedicated to JPEG quality options.
- Use File > Select Source and select your scanner, then use File > Acquire to access your scanner remotely.

It's more likely a problem with the program you're using.

I have no idea what would be wrong with the program I'm using to save it as jpeg.
It's fine as jpeg, what more does the picture need. It just won't accept the picture for I don't know what reason!
My patience is growing very thin, I need a goddamn answer and I need to submitt that picture, c'mon. What more am I asking for?

...you're not the only one whose patience on this matter is wearing thin

Let me repeat what I said earlire. Not all programs save using the same "flavor" of a file format. Some file formats have different (and possibly obscure) sub-variations, and if you're program is saving using a variation of the format that FAC doesn't understand or support, then that is your problem.

The only way to know for sure is to re-save your image file using a different program than the one you are currently using.
