hey all

some of you may know now. that pixar might be bought by disney soon.

here's the link.

Disney Pixar

read for yourself. it would be bought for about 7 billion dollars :o

i think it'd be nice to merge. but only as long as disney doesn't hinder the creativity of pixar.

PIXAR  my dream job

At first when I heard this I thought it was one of those rumours like "Nintendo's going to become a 3rd party developer" and stuff, but lately there's been a lot of buzz about it around my school.

Apparently it's getting mixed opinions from the animators. The Disney ones feel like they've been slighted and the Pixar ones are excited because they've been trying to make Disney~esque movies all along, and they feel like this will let them get back to their roots. Apparently there are rumours that this is part of a business plan Macintosh is putting together, and they plan to buy out Disney in a few years in part of a master scheme to be the next omnipotent company of.... stuff... but there isn't really much to back that up other than internet speculation.

The downside I see to this is that if Disney and Pixar start animating together again, that cuts a whole feature studio out of the jobpool and makes it that much harder to get into the industry. Bad news for animation students..... like me....

Well, they have officially merged and I don't know whta to think. On the one hand, I have liked most of the Pixar films (with the exception of Toy Story) but on the other hand, it's a slap in the face to traditional animators.
All CGI looks dated 5 years or so after the fact (case in point: Aladdin) but traditional animation generally always looks good.

I really don't understand why most companies who never work together are starting to merge and make big buisnesses....

Like Mac using Intel chips, Disney merging with Pixar, Nintendo dying (sp?) and working for Sony, stuff like that, it shouldn't happen...

This is either gonna make Disney a little better or Pixar a lot worse.

Er... Pixar and Disney unrelated companies? What? In Steve Jobs's own words; "Pixar has existed as a company for 20 years, and 19 of those 20 have been with Disney" ...And I may be behind and the Nintendo/Sony/whatever news, but from what I last heard all those rumours that Nintendo was going to go under and work for Sony have been around for at least five years and are just that-rumours. Wishful thinking on behalf of Sony fans, perhaps? And Macs have had pieces developed by other companies in them forever... I'm pretty sure mine has a pentium chip of some sort in it.

I think Mairi hit the nail on the head, though. CG is impressive now, but good traditional animation is impressive forever. The lava in Aladdin, the ballroom scene in Beauty and the Beast... all of that looks like someone pasted characters on top of a video game these days... pretty garrish.

If Nintendo joins Sony, then it will be the end of us.Lets not get started about Sega.
Anyways,Pixar has always made the best 3D Animated movies.Toy Story for example.Disney just buy smaller companies just so they can keep them alive like you adopting a kitten in the streets but from what i heard,a merger can also be a bad thing for example EA buying Westwood Studios, the makers of Command and Conquer. So what happen to the CnC series under the management of EA?

Ok back to Disney and Pixar. If Disney buys Pixar, then lets hope that they hire more animators and gives them more resource to create a better movie with better storyline, artwork and CG.
