ICQ and AIM are two "insta-chat" programs. You register with them and when friends connect, you can send them messages and/or open a chat window to communicate with them.

Apart from that, join if you want to. Of course, understand that your requests may or may not be fulfilled, depending on the good will of those taking requests.

I. myself, LOVE to write, and that's why I joined. I think it's easier anyway. But, like what bungakawa2000 siad, join if you like. You may be glad you did!
