i just beat that plant bug and i was woundering do you have to beat the matrix mini game to move on

Its unlikely, Naughty-dog have never hinged their games on a mini-game. Sometimes, like in Jak 3, it did but its very unlikely, unless you are told to that you should.

Of course, I am speaking by past experience, not actual knowledge of the game. I mean, by all means try it, but unless its on your missions register, I would think not.
