For a series that I've heard is "very popular", very few people seem to have heard of Get Backers...the anime *or* the manga. I first came across it by chance when I decided to pick up an anime from the video store at random and seeing what I thought. That is a day I certainly look back on verrrry fondly. I don't quite know what exactly it is that I love so much about the series...I can't pinpoint one thing. Rather it's a mix of the great characterisations, really in depth plotlines (after the first few "introductory" episodes...which are still darn good as they stand, a really GREAT screenplay and to top it off, the animation is top notch. What's NOT to like *grins* Heh.
And the icing on the cake, as it were...it also has one of the best anime villains imo. There's just something about a scalpel wielding, trenchcoat donning, wide-brimmed-hat wearing, smooth talking, more-than-likely-psychopathic, cold blooded murderer that somehow in the realm of anime...just doesn't make your skin crawl. XD
So...anyone else?

GB is one of my absolute favorite series. I like the manga more than the anime (I myself found the anime to be a little low on the quality side, but that's just me). I think my favorite things about it are the unique art style and the interesting characters. Aoki managed to give each and every character a thorough background (aside from Akabane, but he's not really supposed to have much to im), instead of just the main characters. I'm particularly found of Juubei and Kazuki (who, coincidentally, happen to be my OTP for the series. 8D).

I recently bought a couple of the mangas...2, 3 and 4 I believe and it's really interesting how different they are from the anime. I mean, the storyline and characters are mostly the same (from what i've seen so far), but they seem to have toned down the anime. For example, when in the anime do you see Ban squeezing Hevn's breasts? Ya don't. XD Or when do you hear coarse swear words? Again...zilch. But I think that only makes the whole package so much better. People can either read or watch it and get the same experience in a different way and it can also appeal to a wider audience without radically changing anything.
Okay...that was like a stream of consciousness really....I'll be surprised if that makes much sense to anyone.
Despite him being one of my favourite characters, I do agree with what you say about Akabane not having much to him. He's a really excellently made character, but unlike the others, he has no backstory to speak of and is only there to serve in the present, rather than provide a deeper reference to the past as many of the other characters do, which makes them more realistic and 3-dimensional.
Heehee Juubei...I'm always warming to him. I didn't like the guy at all at first....mainly because his single expression was always blank e.g. =l
But...especially after the hospital episode (man, that cracked me up for days! ), as I say, I'm warming to him. Love Kazuki though...bless him. I never knw whether to feel sorry for him or just plain amused. Seen the "High School Girl" episode? Geez, that ranks up with high on "the funniest" with the Hospital episode

EDIT: OTP...found out the meaning lol. Good ol' Google. |

I'm sure we remember this. 8D
But yeah, poor Kazuki. Just when I thought he couldn't get any girlier, I watched the anime. HE HAS GIRL-HIPS. _________________ FAC |

I have the first manga, but I'm limited to 2 manga per week (expensive!!!!1) and my series has been Samurai Deeper Kyo...
I loved the first one, so I'll probably slow down with both and like....get one of each every week instead of 2 Kyo a week...
I love how simply badass everyone seems to be in it though. Nothin' says badass like 2 guys stealing back a FFIX from a little kid then gettin the s**t beat out of them by the huge brother.

I almost miss the "Juice" days. Though the I.L. arc is by far my favorite, it seems like every assignment they're sent to do gets more and more insane. 8D
It also makes me wonder how they could manage to get beaten up by that kid's older brother, but they were able to stand their own against someone like Akabane. :0 _________________ FAC |

Pyrodragon125 (Matt): Ahha.... I knew that.... ^^; They needed juice...? *blinks* Wow. That's kinda low, lol!
Touzoku-joou: *snort* Comedy value probably....or perhaps someone in the studio thought "Hey! Let's give these guys a nemesis they can really sink their teeth into!" *cue Akabane and Co.* What's the betting said person got a pay rise?
