In your very own opinion, do you think the Super Mario game series has improved or gotten worse on attempts at game play over the years? And why or why not?
I feel that they have gotten better, but some games were worse than others. |

Super Mario Bros on nintendo is still enjoyable to me. Mario 64 too with the 3D roaming around, I like that. Mario Sunshine bugged me 'cause they took out his punch, kick, and made him a janitor. Mario shoots FIRE not WATER. Aside from that there was still alot of intersting things to do with the Fludd.
The levels keep getting interesting that's for sure. I'm still waiting on a 3D Mario game where they give him back his fire power. I don't count SSB 'cause it's practically 2D. |

I pretty much agree. I don't know how the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy is going to be. |

The "main" Mario games tend to focus on one thing: Platforming action, and lots of it. That's what makes it fun.
I did enjoy Super Mario Sunshine, myself. FLUDD was what gave Mario most of his new moves (certainly the Hover nozzle was my favorite), but he still kept a good slew of his own (triple jump, wall jump, etc.) . And all the things like trying to sniff out the tiny secrets in each level (like that maze of cliff passages in Noki Bay) is part of that fun.
Those mini-levels where you had to solve platforming challenges without the use of FLUDD were easily the most difficult sections of the game.
Mario is like Zelda, a respected series whose main installments don't come around very often, Nintendo knows that well so when they do, Nintendo makes sure that it's a blast.
It's the spinoff Mario games which vary.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I know I enjoyed Mario Bros., the arcade Mario game where you had to hit enemies from underneath and flip them over to get points.
The Super Mario Bros. game (the original classic) was very fun and entertaining. It still is today. (I didn't like having to go through Worlds 7-8; they were difficult and annoying. I also hated the underwater levels.)
Super Mario Bros. 2 was still fun (minus the timer on each level. I really loved that.), but some levels were harder than others. It also got frustrating and annoying at times.
I'd say my favorite classic Mario game up to date would have to be Super Mario Bros. 3. I first played that game (including Mario Bros. 1-2) when I was 4. I have loved it ever since then. I love the little items you can collect than changes your abilities (Raccoon Leaf, Frog Suit, Hammerhead Bros. Suit, Tanooki Suit, etc.). I especially loved the Cloud World in that game. I hated the Ice World.
I REALLY LIKED Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island.
(Let me skip to the later Mario games.)
Super Mario 64 was very enjoyable for me. I loved that it was in 3D (which was uncommon at the time). I loved all of Mario's new abilities. It was a very fun and interesting game. I'll even say that for Super Mario 64 DS.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time were very fun. I think that they stood well, being one of the few Mario RPG games, and they were very playable games. |
