Photoshop CS2
or
Photoshop 7.0
I'm not sure which one is best for me, because I don't know what they can do. I might get photoshop, but if I do I need to know which one suits my needs best.
Why are they different?
Which one is better?

To be completely honest, Photoshop 4.0 was perfectly fine for me for the longest time. Chances are, 7.0 will be able to do everything you need it to. Elements would probably do what you need as well, and you can buy that for under a hundred dollars (or get it for free with a wacom tablet)

The only problem I can see you concievably running into is if you download a lot of custom brushes. I don't think brushes designed for CS work with 7, but I'm not totally sure.

A big deciding factor should be based on what you plan on doing with Photoshop. If you're just going to draw, 7.0 should work fine.
If you're also planning on doing photo or image editing, CS2 is a good one to keep in mind.

Since I do a lot of image editing, I went from Photoshop 7.0 to CS2.

I would say the main question is, can you run any of the two versions? CS2 needs a lot RAM, minimum 512.. better is 1 Gig.. I use it and I have a 3,2 Ghz machine including 1Gig RAM and CS2 is still slow, (CS2 runs a few more processes besides the inital programm than the 7.0 version did) so I would check at first what's the status of your computer and if it would run nice with Photoshop. I still recommend 7.0 it has all the things you'll need and still runs fluid also on slower PCs Wink
