why do people like YAOI so much ?

I don't understand how people can be homophobic but adore yaoi, or being okay with gays and hating yaoi. I soposses(I cannot spell that word dammit!) the gay friendly yaoi hating crowd could just not like having something diffrent from the actually story-line, but that still leaves Yaoi and Shoen-Ai (dammit cannot spell today) manga's, which already have gay love in them. I don't know, but I like Yaoi and Shonen-Ai so it really doesn't matter to me.

Uhm, yeah, not quite sure what you're saying... as far as I know, if you're not opposed to yaoi, then you can't be opposed to gays in real life. I mean, how slim's the difference?

As to why they like yaoi, well, duh. It's all a group of fangirls, and hormones can make you act funny. Exactly why, I dunno. :/
After initially getting over the 'gay' pairing thing, and liking it, I think it kinda goes on to real life and more deep yaoi, not just 'making something hotter'.
I don't really know what it is either, but, yeah, yaoi seems to be... addictive to some. Smile

I kinda happen to like yaoi too, but I don't pair up a lot of anime chars or whatnot. It's more original work, and I think that shows that it's not all just about anime chars we think are 'hot'...

I think it has to do with girls and not liking to compare them to other anime girls. I suppose you can't exactly be exact if the other char's a guy, and more girls mean mary sues.

Here is my understanding from research over the years why girls like yaoi.

They love the male characters, however paring them with a female character is threatening to their possessive obsessive love of the character. However, pairing them with another male character is somehow not threatening to that.

The only other reason is the much less psychologically analytical "because its cute"

I'm cool with gays, but I don't like yaoi. Yaoi is often degrading, while attempting to be serious. Show me a realistic gay anime pairing, and I'll probably support it. I'm sick of the "tall, strong brown-haired boy X little wimpy blond boy" stereotype. I'm sick of everybody being "suddenly gay!" and not having any second thoughts or emotional troubles because of this "I'm gay!" realization, or even having to deal with societal pressures.

Yaoi porn, though it doesn't appeal to me, doesn't piss me off as much as shonen-ai stories. At least the porn is only there for chicks to masturbate to, while the shonen-ai is actually supposed to be serious and cute. Eugh.

But I agree with what others have said, that being a protectiveness and a lack of jealousy. Though, anybody who gets jealous over some ink and CG needs a little mental help anyway.

I think that's more with whether or not you become a most rabid fangirl of yaoi.
I actually think it's kinda good. I got into yaoi, and it kinda lets me open up my mind to other people. So now I don't mind gays in real life, but I've neither searched for them, nor am I one myself. I just... don't really care whether someone's gay or not anymore. It's all cool. 8)
