One: I have a laptop (2006 Lenovo), but currently do not have any type of internet connection. My father insists that I get a wireless connection. I actually am looking forward to the same...However: what equipment do I need in order to get a wireless internet connection in our house and how much (approximently) might this cost?
Two: Upon getting an internet connection on my laptop, I want to know what would be the best virus/firewall program, and what internet type I should use. I'm leaning more towards Mozilla Firefox, but if anyone has a better idea, kindly tell me.
Thank you for your time. _________________ What does it all MEAN? |

The virus thing I use is AVG (Free Edition) and I've never had any problems with viruses. You can set it to scan the computer for viruses everyday, if you wanted to~
I also use FF. I've only really used two or three browsers (IE, FF, and Avant) and FF is definitely my favourite out of those. :]
As for the first question, I don't really know how much it'd cost~ A router and wireless adapters for sure, though I can't really elaborate because my brother handles the technical stuff in our house. :X |

you can get a wireless router for about $50-100 depending on the model and how overpriced the place you buy it is.
Some ISPs also offer internet connections wierlessy (as an alternative to cable or DSL). I know Fido does in some areas, and there are companies that offer it via microwave -- tho there are high setup costs for that. |

I have a wireless router. Its connected to the phone line, just turn it on and off when I want to use it. Well, you can leave it on all the time if you want. You probably already have a wireless card somewhere inside the laptop if its new. So once you have the router and DSL sync is setup you'll be able to go.
I use AVG Free too, for a anti-virus. I use Zone alarm for my firewall, its pretty good.

Thanks, all of you. I discovered (very happily) that my computer already had the technology in it to go wireless, so that's panned out, and now I just need some clarification as to what yonder language you are using.
