the best thing this month represents the community better than two year old art from someone who is no longer active in the community.
Fair point. |

we could get a committee of three people from the community to, at the end of each month, pick the best thing from that month.
the committee could change every month, and be picked through some objective measure of positive contribution in the community, and there could be a short simple list of guidelines for how to make /choose feature worthy art, then we could use the feature as a reward for learning to make feature worthy art and the committee as a reward for positive community activity.
or something like that, just throwing out Ideas for y'all to come up with something better.
[of course the admin who post the feature has veto power, and could send the committee back to find something better if need be...training them how to choose something feature worthy] |

^Interesting idea. I'll let it digest for some time and see what I can think up to contribute as well. The only thing I know for sure is that the features as they are now should be left as is. And, that if we're to expect more features we should have two different platforms/ranks of features. What it is now could be considered class 'S' or 'A' while we could another form of features considered as class 'B' features. It wouldn't be as strict or have severely high standards as what features are now but, still have some standards in place to have quality work. (I hope my point gets across, I don't think I explained my thoughts/ideas to well.)

Some of my recent-ish faves (since the last feature, in any case) -

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/K_Pepper/849634/Abby
It looks like Jadis and I both thought the same piece by Angel88 was notable... I had a couple others, but one of then was apparently deleted. Oh well.
Also, I wanted to mention that FluffyBunny's I Remember Touch wasn't just notable to me for the visual side of things, but also because it's subject matter felt very memorable to me.

I appreciate your recommendation on "Abby," but the "Touch, I remember Touch" picture is not mine, it's Fluffybunny's work! I want to give credit where credit is due. |

since you said you were looking for featured suggestions, I went through the past 30 days and these are what stood out to me
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/AlcyoneSong/850401/Beach-
cute scene, well drawn in own style rather than imitating the style characters were originally in. good fan art.
Picnichttp://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/Hazard103508/850367/Yuna
very nicely drawn, nice active pose.
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/K_Pepper/850431/More-Laughsn-Barrel-of-Monkeys
although there are inaccuracies in perspective and anatomy they add rather than detract from the mood of the image. personally that impresses me more than photorealism.
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/K_Pepper/850329/Mistakes-were-Made
great job of doing what was asked for in a commission
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/Teal666/850262/witchsona
although this is dark in the thumbnail and not ideal for a front page feature in that way, it is very creative expressive and well done.
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/wrightmother/850177/Butterfly-colourful
beautiful and very original rendering of a subject often done in less original ways,
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/Teal666/850078/adventure-party-afterparty
a lot of work went into this, it is well composed, detailed, nice colors cute scene, creative concept.
******if I had to pick one thing to feature for the 30 days it would be the one I listed last, the adventure party after party. ********
I also really like this
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/K_Pepper/849991/Across-Echoes
although it is slightly over 30 days old. |

Since the last Feature is from February currently, I figured I'd see about rounding up some possibilities...
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/Fluffybunny/850888/She-Glistens-Like-Gold
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/Fluffybunny/850910/He-Burns-Like-The-Sun
FluffyBunny's excellent lion pictures are both from July of this year, visually striking, and have nice shading and great color-contrast.
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/AikaXx/851606/Nyx-Ulric-sketch---Final-Fantasy-XV-Kingsglaive
AikaXx's Final Fantasy XV fanart is not the MOST visually complex piece, but has a nice pose, strong outline, good texture/motion to the hair, and the limited palette look with that BRIGHT blue in the eyes helps make it more visually interesting. September this year.
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/chibibreeder/851674/80-as-good-as-chems
chibibreeder, September, nice character portrait, like the use of the red/green contrast and the shading in the wrinkles and facial scarring.
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/jira/851745/OLYMPIC-RIO-2016-Gold-Winner-MONICA-PUIG-montage
Jira, October. Somewhat simple shading but a lot of interacting scenes and poses, and excellent anatomical realism.
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/MonocleCosplay/851860/Unnatural-Selection
Dramatic scenario, good action poses and fairly good shading, nice windblown hair on the aggressor, and I like the bright touches of neon sign and electric-glowing fingers shining out of the dark.
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/MonocleCosplay/851853/The-Secret-Revision
Dramatic scenario, nice poses and clothing and touches of well-placed lighting, attention to detail in the textures of the hay bales and wooden walls.
Both by MonocleCosplay from October of this year. |

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/wittlewabbit/853062/Lara-Croft-Rise-of-Tomb-Raider
Dramatic contrasts, some nice light on the lips and eyes, and good texture on the leather necklace cord. |

Nice expression, beautiful lighting - a bit understated but it seems like in a very intentional way? - and a lot of attention to color nuance - layers of purple and pink-violet and a mix of warm and cold blues keeping things interesting even on a relatively monochrome character - and the sharp edge of light around her mane seems like a tribute to the color outline in the original animation style, without cloning it. |

http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/Fluffybunny/853540/Evening-Glow
Depth of shading on mane and cloud volume, nicely cooperating colors, fut detail, expression perspective with the hills fading into the haze. Has been drawing attention from other users as well, which isn't to be taken for granted these days. And I have a personal weakness for the evening-gold colorscheme which probably biases me. |
