I nearly died when I saw this in my e-mail today:

"Your Picture "Legends of Retro 3: Pitfall!" has been deleted from Fanart Central by an admin.

The reason given is: No Official Art: Submissions of videogame screenshots (in whole or in part) is not allowed.

(Submission rule #1a)

Um... What? I DREW that image. Screenshot my posterior. I physically drew it in pencil, inked it, and traced the drawing with a tablet pen. No part of this is a screenshot.

This doesn't belong here -- moving to help.

As for the deletion, I'll let whichever admin did it answer the question.

This is a tough one, and SH aren't immune to the occasional mistake either.

That was me. I'd take another look at the submission, but it's not in my browser's page history, we don't have an "Undelete" function, and deletion notices don't have any tracking info like AP rejection notices do (denis, can you fix that?) .

That in bold is probably why. Trying to recreate a sprite using digital media is a gray area because it can be difficult to tell between the result and the copyrighted original. It's easy to tell when the media is traditional, but when computer is involved, it's too easy (and too common) for people to just grab the copyrighted graphic from a sprite site, scale them up to a decent size and incorporate them into a pic.

So I don't have an answer here. I'm doing double-takes over several other of your submissions because they have similar resemblences to the copyrighted originals. It's a gray area, and should just be avoided to begin with.

I don't know if I should be flattered or frustrated. I didn't think any of my art looked anything close to the original screenshots, as you can see below with my reference side-by-side to the actual drawing:

I do however, appreciate you working with me on this, and in the future, I'll try some other way of getting my retro gaming images done.
