For those who think the title is absolute gibberish, visit http://nanowrimo.org

This is my first NaNoWriMo. Anyone else taking the challenge? What's your story about? How far are you? Anyone going to want to beta in December?

It's day three and I'm 5,000 word in... need to write another 1000 today, but procrastinating. Luckily it's the weekend so I will be able to write a ton... hopefully.

Oh god. I'm not sure exactly why I joined, but this is almost definately something I can't keep up with.
Considering I only found out on November 2. XD

I'm so far around 2,000 words in, and it's day 4. I'm doomed. Sad
Still, it's a challenge and I've got myself a deadline set, so it's something to strain for. I want to see how well I can work under pressure. Very Happy

I'm writing some random young adult/light fantasy story, which I probably will never find enough plot for to continue.
This is one of my stories where, I've got a beginning and an end, but nothing to shove in between. >>;
And a whole lotta detail to work out.

What about you, Stef? What're you writing?

I'm writing a weird romanticish fantasy type of thing. I think. It's hard to pick a genre, but it's about this necromancer who wants to revive his dead girlfriend and the werewolf he lives with who's just trying to stop him from killing himself. I'm 6.5k in so far, but the 300 words I've written today have been describing waking up in the morning.

You might notice I don't come in the writer's forum often (/at all). That's because I don't write. Ever. One day in October I went wacko and thought it was a good idea Neutral If this particular story had been written by a decent author, it would probably have been 25k words long, max. So I'm trying to stretch the story out for as long as possible without resorting to humorous interludes that have nothing to do with the plot or really badly written porn scenes.

The hardest part, I think, is writing the little time gaps, like the walk on the way to the store or whatever, because no one actually wants you to write them, but I don't just wanna say "and then they were home." Neutral Makes it seem like no time passed at all.

But still, I've got enough Jrock to last a year and enough Halloween candy to keep me sugar high for hours on end, and I will finish this story whether my Imaginary Reader vomits at the sight of it or not. Smile

My plot is so friendshippy, it's terrible. If it were written by a decent author this story would be rather romantic, but I am avoiding romance at all costs because I have about as much credibility for writing romance as your average retarded parrot. Rolling Eyes

But it'll end up being romance if my characters have anything to say about it. It's like they're trying to hard to get in the sack that there's genitalia flopping all over everywhere, but I refuse and put a brown paper bag over said flopping bits, so you can't see it full out, but you know it's there and you can hear it flopping, hauntingly, in the background. One of these days it's going to flop it's way out of the bag and back onto my carefully castrated characters, and then all hell will break loose.

...A sexy sort of hell.

I don't think I can bring myself to do it. :l I'm already in a creative writing course for school, and I really don't feel like doing more writing outside of that. D8;

*pussy*

Looks like some fun, though. Dangit.

Oh, I completely agree. I'm stretching out details too, though I'm rather hoping, with the way I'm carried through a story, that I can add in some more small but not quite meaningless little sidestep actions/plotline as well... That should somehow get me to around 50k.
This means brainstorming in all my spare time. XD

Wow, stef, that's real interesting... and hilarious. At least, your... genitalia description. XD

It's interesting though, real interesting. Sounds like the kinda story I'd like to read :3

And Fayore, it's not too late to join. I figure, if one can write 2,000 words a day, you only need write for 25 days to cover it. 8D
I'm also taking a creative writing class, but it's for the second half of the school year, so I'll be able to balance the two out.

I've gotten up to 4,800 words now, and I'm damn proud of that. D:

I'm afraid anime/yaoi has had a terrible affect on me, and completed with a love of ANYTHING that Francesca Lia Block writes, I've got light fantasy with modern-day problems for two boys that will be paired together.
It's also just because, reading over so so many young teen fics, I can't believe how many are centralized around girls. I'm not sexist or anything (and I'm a girl myself) but I'd just prefer to try more from a male's point of view.
One sees into the future, in a sense... I'm not sure how much I'm going to elaborate for now. ^^;

But I gotta finish my other projects first before I can get around to writing any more... I have 2 birthday pics to draw (for good friends too, so I've got to put in some effort) and another story I'm also working on at the same time, whose 1-year anniversary is actually the same day as one of the two birthday days, which is because I dedicated the story to the close friend on her birthday...
blab blab blab. So basically, I have to write at least one more chapter AND draw a picture by Nov. 25. ^^;

And my parents just think I'm goofing off, because as long as it's not schoolwork, it's not important, to them. >>;

Echt. Sorry, ranting-raving done. Back to work I go.
Don't distract me now, video games!! DX

I'm not sure how old you are, but (if you're in highschool) if you join you could probably get extra credit for paricipating. I wish I had English this semester so i could get extra credit, but unfortnately the only way I'd be getting extra credit for this is if I was writing it in binary D: (Not that I need the extra credit anyway, but it would be nice to know that my efforts have been rewarded.)

lol, that's an idea. I'll ask my teacher about it tomorrow. Unfortunately, though, I was supposed to have already written up two fairy tales which I've more or less skipped on, lol. They're both... er, half-written. And that's being generous. D8

BUT. I did get up the guts to register an account. Now I just have to figure out how to get back nearly a week's worth of missed writing. X3; Any tips, other than locking away my internets and PS2? XD;

You can do it. (as long as it's typed and not hand-written) XD

I figure if I can type up about 1k words in half an hour, you can make up. Just allot yourself some time. :3

Thank god we have so many days off in November; that's gonna be my lifesaver. XD

NOW, for once, I feel like I just maybe, maybe, MAYBE can stand a chance. :O

I'll also see if we can get extra credit. That would be quite nice. Wink

You can write 1k words in half an hour? Holy crap. And here I am at three in the morning groaning aobut having written 800 words today x_x

Fayore, I'd say jsut aim for writing 2.5-3k words a day for the first couple of days, which shouldn't be too hard if you've got a story structure in your head, then just go with the 2k a day rule after you've caught up. That way you've got a bit of leeway if you've got writers block.

The main thing is to have an idea of what's going to happen in your story, where the major events take place, and fill them with the minor events in between. I suppose you would already know that, since you probably write a lot more than I do, but you dn't want to end up with an entire chapter where your MC is going grocery shopping... alone. (*shifty eyes*)

Well, I get sudden bursts of innovation, and I'm happily typing away.
Then I get stuck for another hour.
And another. >>;

That's how I'm not fast at all, in the long run. >>;

...........
The first chapter in my story included my MC at his job, which is being a... checkout person for a supermarket.
The other (to be paired) character was doing the grocery shopping. D:

Does that count?? :x

Oh, man, but I don't think I can really get up anywhere near 2.5 or 3k words a day. I'm just trying to not fall too far behind. ;o;

I need more days off.

Stef, what's your username? Do you have a story excerpt?? Very Happy
I'd love to read it~

btw what do you call those turny dispenser things where all the plastic bags are??? D:

Thankfully, I already have an idea (or, at least, the beginning of one). I've actually had it for about a year now, (originally planned for a web doujin, lol. Never had the time to sit down and draw it all, though. =_=) so I'll try to use it.

I take loads more time to write stuff up, though. I spend a lot of time mentally planning, but when it comes down to the grindstone, I'm like, outta there. D8; Can't commit ideas to word very well. DX

Anyway, I think I should get started on it. Already spent 10+ hours today on my PS2. <<;

Anyway, my username for NaNoWriMo is the same as the one I use everywhere, so. 8D;

We should spend some time reading each other's stories. :3 (If someone gets stuck on the dreaded writer's block, maybe we can swap ideas~)

ETA: No clue about the dispenser thing, sorry. Maybe you can write around it - you know, don't write about it directly, so it doesn't need to be named. ...Y'know. XD;

Skipping school to work on NaNo <<; But procrastinating nonetheless.

I've gotten really bad for procrastinating, the first couple of days I could write over 2k after school, but on the weekend I was up all night working and still fell behind v_v

You can read my excerpt here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/userinfo.php?uid=140292

It's really poo-tacular though. I am not an avid wrter, and the only book I've read since er... June... is Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging, which I'm pretty sure doesn't even count. >.<; I'm thinking that in December I am going to need a major beta, or I'll just turn it into a comic or something. If only I could use convey my ideas, I'm so bad with words. Blahh.
The first chapter in my story included my MC at his job, which is being a... checkout person for a supermarket.

XD My second chapter was my MC going grocery shopping, but I ended up deciding that the scene was totally pointless and making him meet a girl named Wendy who is loosely based on Sid Barret except less awesome and more awkward. I was going to have her follow him around for an age shaking a maraca at him but I got bored of her and made everyone go home. Unfortunately that meant I had to write another walking-home scene. X0
Anyway, I think I should get started on it. Already spent 10+ hours today on my PS2. <<;
*smacks you with a tuna* Bad Fayore! Stop procrastinating!
We should spend some time reading each other's stories. :3 (If someone gets stuck on the dreaded writer's block, maybe we can swap ideas~)
I am totally all for this. So far the only person I have been able to ask for plot ideas is so far is my little brother who took the flopping-genitalia talk all too literally.
btw what do you call those turny dispenser things where all the plastic bags are??? D:
...Bag dispensers? Try asking on the NaNoWriMo forum, there's people there who know some really obscure things (I earlier had to ask how to describe the sound of a seizure) and it's handy. If that's not gonna work for you, my sister works at a supermarket and I can ask her for you but I'd have to wait until she gets home :/

I am soooo tempted to write... ;-; But I've got enough unfinished stories as it is. I can't do it. Plus, it's day 6. So, blahhhh.

...Boy, is this ever gonna hurt. XD; Half an hour in and I'm already agonizing over a meagre 600 words. I can't see how I'm ever gonna pull in 2,000 a day. I guess I'll just have to make the most use out of my weekends as I can. :S Lucky it's Rememberance Day this weekend. (I think in the 'states it's Veteran's Day?)

Augh. I know where I want this to go (at least for now), but it's sheer unadulterated pain to get the ideas committed to paper. ...Er, computer? XD;

Speaking of books, I actually haven't read any since the summer, either. ;_; I have an awful habit of picking up books at the library and never opening them, much less actually read through them. >_<

Uhh, I'm now at 9.5k words.
Not helped by the fact that yesterday I had a fever of 100.6 degrees... D:

If you wanna see me on there, I'm Shenandoah. I just like that word. Surprised

Those forums are oh-so confusing though...

I have to get around to writing some more. >>; It would help if I had a plotline... :/

Urgh, this all jsut got a lot harder. I suddenly got inspiration for another story all together, it's taking all my willpower to stop myself from deleting my 12.3k words and starting over. ;_; Plus I try to write something funny one night, then the next day I come back to it and am like "Gah. I'll just get rid of all this crap and start over." XC I find myself deleting whole chapters at a time... Everything I wrote yesterday was totaly crap, but i think I'm gonna leave it in the document for word count purposes and lmark it to be taken out in the post-NaNo editing frenzy.

We just had a Rememberance Day assembly and dramatic presentations, a play and a guest speaker (ever hear of Kim Phuc, the Napalm girl???) and now I'm wishing I had gone with a war theme. Or at least one with a considerable larger amount of violence.

Plus, TF, I asked my sister about bag dispensers, she says she jsut has a bunch of bags on a hook Neutral But then that's just at her store, they could be different in wherever-you-are.

Heh, I live in DE, USA. that's okay. ^^;

I'm hoping it won't matter. :)

I just now realized my new problem... it's not so much keeping up with the 50k a day, as finishing a freakin' story.
I'm now 11k in, and practically nothing has happened. XD

Anticlimax! Oh noes~

Argh. I've learned to keep up with the word count, but now I'm rapidly running out of things to actually include in my story. I've basically got one more plot point then the climax, at 16.5k

D: Maybe we should trade stories. I'll write yours and make everything happen too fast, and you can write mine and fix it so it lasts the rest of the month. XD~ What a disaster.

My story is now living almost completely on dares. Sad I'm gonna throw in some random transvestites (or something) and hope something interesting happens and makes it's own damn plot.

...I don't think I can do this. Not only am I behind on word count, but half the problem is that the plot's starting to take a turn from the original outline I planned. WTF, there's an entirely new character I never planned on including in here already! @_@

Luckily the genre I'm writing is fantasy, so there's never a shortage of things I can make the story do, but... :s I can't do it. Too many things to say, too many things I forget to say... I'm only a little more than 2500 words in, and I've only gotten past the prologue. The main character hasn't even left his house yet, and for some reason it still feels like I'm rushing the story. <<;
