I've played five shows with my band, Fail Safe Remedy, and as it comes with playing in bars and parties, you get some interesting stories.
An interesting story I have regards our most recent gig. We rocked the hardest we ever have, and the show was less than adequate in my personal view. Good music, but not enough presence. We finish our set with a new song entitled "Jericho" and call it a night, get our shit offstage so the next band can rock out, and sit down to eat our free pizza.
The next band is called Karate High School, and they're overall a good show, except for their keyboardist who does this funky chicken/Donkey Kong thing while rocking out.
They rocked harder than we did, and I hate saying it, but we're a sophomore and three juniors in high school. We need more experience. They can put on a show, and I'm watching/listening/falling asleep on my girlfriend's shoulder.
Turns out they're on the recent Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands CD release.
We've opened for a band that now has national exposure and we never even knew it. This shocked me, and angered me that I hadn't looked into them enough. Essentially, we embarrassed ourselves in front of rich California hard-punk rockers who could own a stage.
I left before our local band played. Sorry, but there was a lonely dirt road and a girlfriend callin' my name.
I also have the distinct pleasure of telling two brothers that attend my school that their mom is a straight up annoying drunk who needs to shut up at parties. If she ever compares our music to Ramones/Theory of a Deadman again, it's on.
One of the best things about playing in bars? Drunk people.
They either won't shut up, which is great if you're begging for audience reaction, or they'll pass out while playing pinball. They're hilarious. Forget the music aspect, the tangents they can go out on are crazy and great. The best part is they pay to see us.
It's like "we'll shake the bar, you just drink it dry and pretend you love us".
That and our manager is a stoner/drunk.
He actually does his job well for the most part.
More to come as events pop up. |
