I saw Eragon yesterday and I'm tellin ya it was awsome! I personaly like...no..really like the LOTR series but man. Eragon just came out of thin air and punked LOTR and Starwars out. Was obsoluty stunned! Nonstop action!

Euh? I heard it kinda sucked and only people who've read the book and are under the age of twelve would like it. Maybe I'll write a better response if the local library gets the dvd or if someone puts up a decent quality torrent.

(THIS thing better than LOTR or Starwars? You gotta be kidding..)

What's a sention?

*pauses* hmm....maybe not Star Wars but defenantly LOTR. (very very VERY dull and long intro)

It never really matters about accuracy because you have three factors.

money
money
MONEY!! ^^
Digital costs mega moolah and now of all times, america doesn't have that. (A mini-depression)
I like Eragon better because of the constant action(Like a martial arts movie), Evil humor (Mainly Saphira, lol. She's crazy ^^), cool effects (Fire, magic, Saphira, etc.)

The reason readers didn't like it was because it wasn't very accurate. I was about to read Eragon, had the book in my hand an everything, and I dropped it. Now every time I look in the store or library all of the copies are gone! Would smack myself if I was dumb enough......
Series of Unforunate events was......pretty good on the accuracy.

LOTR was not so much but is still somewhat fun to watch.

Starwars was probably the most accurate and "Oddessy" the least accurate.

What i'm trying to say is that, well, movies are never going to be dead-on. Show-biz my friend, show-biz

I meat sensation and you know it V_V

Well i thought Eragopn was desent and watcheble. It was not really better than LotR or Starwars ('cept for "attack of the clones" that movie SUXED!). I liked it and like many others I read the book. I was a bit dissapointed with how the story turned but some parts actualy looked better than if they did it dead on like the battle with Durza. I still think it should have been Murtahg (dont remember how to spel it) to shoot Durza between the eyes and not Eragon, plus the ra'zac should have killed Brom, not Durza. The effects where dazzling and extream it's just the war part was to short. All around the movie felt just TOO EFFING SHORT! Oh well let's just hope Eldest is bigger, better and LONGER! (they better stay true to the relationship between eragon and arya atleast) I would realy love to see how the let Murtahg's dragon look and Gleadr and Oromir (is that his name). Oh and why didn't they introduce Katrina or Orik? That suxed. I give Eragon (movie) 6.5/10 and the book eragon 7/10 and the eldest book 9/10. Smile

My friend loves the books and she saw the movie. She said she was extremly disappointed. I never read the book or saw the movie so I don't really know what she means. She was saying things like "Their were no elves or dwarves. They were just dumb actors. They didn't even try to make elves!!11!" Then she was all like "They left so much of the book out and changed so many things!!11!" And then finally "It sucked monkey balls" So yeah. I don't plan on ever seeing it.

Muh dick.

None stop action doesn't mean its a good movie, it just means that the writers suck at developing their characters and giving the whole plot some depth. LOTR and Star Wars > All other movies.

The books sucked.

IT'S FREAKING MCCAFFREY FOR FOURTH GRADERS GOD

D8;;;;;

I swear, when I first picked up Eragon, I was like, "Well, this seems pretty popular. Let's check out what everyone's raving about."

No. Noooooo. Practically the entire thing was plagiarized from McCaffrey's series. The whole concept of dragon riders, etc... Not to mention the pacing wasn't that good and the characters were too two-dimentional. I'll give the guy some lenience on this since it's his first novel/series, but still! EGAD.

This movie is yet another example of how anything remotely popular will suddenly get loads of publicity + a movie. Capitalists. Augh.

I don't care how much action it's got. Where the fuck is the plot? And why is it cloned from something I've read before?

It's cloned from things you've read before because it was some lame hobby of a punkass home schooled kid that didn't have anything better to do, so he ripped off all the good stories he knew and made this....thing.

Everything about it is almost directly ripped from more advanced, developed stories. McCaffrey (good lord...Pern books make my head hurt they're so dense. My grandma loved them) and Tolkien. To name the two most prominent.

The only people who love it are those who enjoy a dumbed down version of classic stories.

I blame the kid's parents. They self published their kid's shitty book in the first place.

I've hardly heard any much more of it. The guy started writing it when he was fifteen, and his parents published the books themselves and started offering readings at local libraries & such . . . he wouldn't be such a hit if he had to deal with rejection letters from national publishers.

The review for Eragon in our local paper compares it both to Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. The article was quite funny, actually, although I don't remember many lines from it other than "the scene of Eragon looking into the sunset feels so familiar you almost expect there to be two suns."

To TK421: Easy before I punch you.

Actually it depends on your taste on movies. If you like the "Dramatic" pauses, that's you.
I like the "Comic-Style" nonstop roller coaster. Lots of fun to read. (Even thought it was as accurate as a deer shooting a bow n' arrow)

To Fayore: Who the heck is McCarrfy er whatever his name is.
The reason you didn't like it is because fantasy is just isn't your thing. Besides, the "Dragon Riders" date back much farther than this, person, that you keep blabbering about.

Besides what made the story good was that the characters are easy to relate to, THERE IS A PLOT (and a very good one. You just didn't read far enough.), and not to mention a Bad-To-The-Bone Rotten-To-The-Core Totally-Friggin-Awsome villan! ^^ Yay villans!

Anne McCaffrey wrote a series of "Pern" novels about a group of explorers who colonized a planet with small dragonlike lizards and genetically engineered larger, telepathic "dragons" which they ride around on to destroy harmful "Thread" stuff emitted by the local star... or something like that. Go check out Wikipedia.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA-- oh, you were serious.

Are you kidding me. Anne McCaffrey is one of the oldest fantasy writers out there. When people think "classic fantasy" two people ALWAYS pop up first: Tolkien and McCaffrey (despite the fact that McCaffrey claims her novels are scifi, lol). Date back much farther than McCaffrey? Did you NOT see fallen's comment that her grandmother loved McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series? McCaffrey's first Pern book was written way back in the sixties, which is probably around when your parents were born.

Fantasy isn't my thing, har. Ahaha. Seems like a certain other person on this board isn't the only person who makes arguments based on stuff they make up about the person they're arguing with. Just so you know, I read nearly everything; from novels and plays to newspaper articles, textbooks, comics, etc., fantasy being my favoured genre. What I don't like reading is bad writing - which I'll read anyway just so I can say, "Yeah, I read that. It was shitty."

That being said, I finished Eragon, start to finish. Partly because I'm an optimist and I like to believe that maybe, just maybe, the book would get better near the end.

It didn't.

I thought of reading the sequel to see if that was any better, but then I realized that woah, I am NOT a masochist.

eragon is mccaffrey for fourth graders
if you're in fourth grade, well, then, have a nice day, enjoy your book

....so, you're an eighth grader?

Surely you can find better books to read than this steaming pile of suck. :l

Standards for literature and arts just keep falling, I swear.

Also, that Lexile stuff has nothing to do with how well a book is written as it only analyzes stuff related to sentence complexity. Even worse, it counts the number of words per sentence to determine its "complexity" - which has nothing to do with style or content. I've seen some damned thesaurus-raped purple prose in my day and I can tell you, that shit would rate pretty damn high on this lame lexile scale.

Wow, what a bash-fest...

I was actually planning on maybe renting the movie when it came out, simply for one reason: I wanna see the CG graphics-dragons. 8D I'm that simple-minded sometimes.

But I've read the book. I thought it'd be something nice, too, for all its volume and all... Ugh, it was terrible. Not a single original concept. I'll give the kid SOME credit for writing the book at age 15/starting it at age 15, but, whatever. Still absolutely nothing brilliant.
And not only was the plotline dull; the style of writing was enough to put me to sleep. It's amazing I even finished the book. :/

...But, then again, age fifteen is somewhat developed. Age fifteen is sophomore year. Even at age fifteen for me, I couldn't stand that kind of typical fantasy. And that was when I'd read Eragon. I had no problem with donating that hefty book to charity.

...And would now be a bad time to bring up Amelia Atwater-Rhodes?? :B

I've never heard of her. I'm sure there's a good reason for this. DX

I've never read any of her works, though, so I can't really comment.

I guess after The Outsiders (which I've never read, either, haha) everyone suddenly thinks they can become teen authors or something. <<;

I like watching the CG designs too. I hear the movie's Saphira has feathers.

I doubt Paolini was really aiming for any target audience in particular; more like a personal project, the only difference being that his parents owned a small publishing house and used it to show it off. That's like . . . not how "the real world" works.

Ahh, feathers would be cool. Very cool. :B

Oh, and Amerlia Atwater-Rhodes published her first book at age 13. And I read it. Now THAT is something that was actually very nice, for her age. Original story (for the most part,) decent concepts, pretty darn good writing style. She writes about vampires, and her stories... tend to be very alike, but they're still pretty good. She's 20-something now. Still proves that Christopher Paolini ain't exactly a genius out there. :/

Hmm, I'd never heard about Paolini's parents though publishing the book 'til now; that puts this into a new scope. D:
