You need Firefox 2 for these extensions. This is quite possibly the webs best browser, and even if it's not your favorite, you should still have it.

Forum Additive
This tool allows you to monitor threads for new replies and get alerted when the thread receives one, or many. I've been having some fun playing with it.
You can choose to get alerted by a pop-up at the bottom right of the browser, or by a sound, or by a link that shows itself in your statusbar, or by all three. It's very customizable and very helpful for forum addicts or people who are just really into a thread at the moment. The reason this is better than just simply subscribing to threads from your control panel (other than the control panel being out of service here on FAC) is because you can set how long you want to be receiving alerts from threads.

FoxyTunes
Puts a music player in your statusbar on your browser enabling you to control your music while browsing. There are many skins for the player to make it look nice. I personally prefer Finespun 1.2 because it matches my browser skin. It supports loads of popular music players, including WMP, Winamp, iTunes, MusicMatch, RealPlayer, Yahoo Music Jukebox, etc.

Signature
You can add custom text to a submenu in your textarea menu which you can select and have it automatically paste where your text pointer is placed. So you won't have to repeatedly write the same things when you visit your favorite sites. It's mainly for adding signatures to emails or forum posts, things like that. But I use mine to store usernames, passwords, emails, and just about anything I find myself manually typing very often. It's very handy, especially since I am the only person who uses this computer and it's pretty safe to have my many passwords stored in it.

Custom Buttons2
I like this tool. It's basically a Startbar in your browser. It's a button you can place anywhere in your toolbar, when clicked, a predefined list of programs, files and folders comes up. You can edit the list to drop down all of your favorite apps and stuff.

Download Statusbar
Instead of that little window that pops up when you download stuff, it shoves all that information into a bar above your regular status bar. Handy.

Fire FTP
Exactly what it sounds like.

Image Zoom
Do things like this by simply right clicking and moving the scroll wheel.

Tab Mix Plus
Moar tab options. A godsend.

Google Notebook
A function to select anything on any webpage and right click>Note This to your Google Notebook account instantly. Google Notebook requires registration to use this feature. You have an icon in your statusbar that can open up to the Mini Notebook where you can edit, save, view, delete etc all of your saved notes.

Gmail & Yahoo Mail Notifiers:
Displays the number of unread messages in your inbox, and gives you an alert when you receive new mail. Both icons and the unread mail display in the statusbar (or toolbar, your choice).

Video Downloader
Allows you to download almost any video you can view. Any video on Youtube, Metacafe, Dailymotion, Myspace, Newgrounds, NothingToxic, and somewhere around 60+ sites.

Also, I want to point out a really nice thing with Forum Additive. In the pop up alerts you get with new thread posts, it displays the thread name, thread starters name, thread views and comments, and the poster. It's pretty sweet. Even the pop up is customizable in colors.
Fire FTP
heh, I never even thought to look for one of these, thanks. I think IE is COMPLETELY useless to me now ;P

YakAlike
This enables you to chat with others (registered or not) visiting the same domain as you. Very useful and faster than posting on forums. The ability to register a username makes this one better than...

Yaplet
...this chat applet. Which is superior to YakAlike in every way other than username registration (which this one doesn't have, unfortunately). They both do the same things, with this one being more intuitive with a few added features.

Gmail Manager
Better than Gmail Notifier, it has all the same features, plus much more. If you chose to use Gmail Notifier, I recommend upgrading to this.

Gspace
Possibly one of the most useful add-ons for Gmail users. It allows you to upload files to your Gmail account (2+ gb and growing) as an online file storage, and the interface resembles an ftp host. You can listen to your uploaded music, view your uploaded pictures, and download uploaded files from Gspace.

Menu Editor
Very very useful if you're a neat freak and want to clean your menu's up. It works with your context menu and your toolbar menu. You can organize every aspect of each of your context menu's (picture menu, link menu, textarea menu, etc). You can choose to hide your rarely used menu items and manage their placement.

AJAX Yahoo! Mail
I'm having major probs with Yahoo Mail Beta. So I've decided to go back to the ordinary Yahoo Mail, which sucks. This tool does basically one thing, which just happens to be the one thing I loved about Mail Beta. It allows you to check your mail without opening the messages page. It puts a dropdown icon next to the title of each message, when clicked, the message is loaded right thre on the page. It's fast and very convenient.

Organize Status Bar
If you've decided to use many of the add-ons posted in this topic, or use many period, this extension will help you organize the add-ons that display their icon in the status bar. Useful for me, since I'm on a mission to load my browser with all the best add-ons created...

Save Image in Folder
If you like the images TK posts all the damn time, and like to save the best ones, this tool will make the process faster. You add shortcuts, to any folder on your harddrive, to your context menu. So when right clicking any image, a submenu will be there with the folder(s) you've decided to add to the context menu. Quick saving to any folder you want. It can also edit a pictures filename automatically if there is already one with the same name in the folder(s).

And just for fun...

PostPosted: Thu Jun 14, 2007 8:39 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

I've finally finished that super long list of Firefox add-ons. Here is the last list I have to post for now.

phpBB Advanced Quick Reply Quote Edit
We all love IPB's Quick Reply function, something phpBB doesn't have. This extension tacks a quote/reply box on thread pages for some of the forum boards that do not have Quick reply as an option. Pretty useful, but known to be buggy on very few message boards.

RadialContext-D
If you're not using the powerful Menu Editor extension, then you can use this for style points. It turns your context menus into a radial menu. Very nice looking and pretty cool.

EditTXT
Open, edit and create your .txt files from a sidebar in Firefox.

Quick File Post
A quick way to share files up to 50MB online. No registration required to use the service, its a free file host site. A toolbar button pops up the upload box where you choose a file. After upload, you are given direct links and html tags to share the file. Viewers can download the file easily. Very useful, IMO.

shortText
This is a neat little service. Quickly add text, images, and video to a (disposable) webpage for someone and send them the link to view it. You can make the webpages private and only accessible through a password. I say "Disposable" because there is no need (nor the option) to manage the webpage afterwards.

SmartSeach
Add a list of your bookmarks Quicksearches to the rightclick context menu. You can select a word or phrase, right click it and you have the list of your favorite search engines right there for you to choose to search the selected from. The best part of this extension: the option to search for words without selecting them, but just hovering your pointer above them and right clicking. The search engines I've included in mine are: Download.com, Google, Google Images and Video searches, Internet Movie Database, Youtube, UrbanDictionary, Wikipedia, deviantART, and Fanart Central user search. Instructions to add search engines are in the "Discussions" area on the link I provided.

DownloadHelper
Download many types of music files and video files, and even flash video (Youtube, Google Video, Myspace, Imeem). DownloadHelper doesn't get errors like VideoDownloader gets so often.

for fun

Foxdie (Graphite)
This theme is by far the best. Actually, it's a set of themes for the tab bar, toolbar,
status bar, etc. So you have lots of control over customization, much more than any
other theme I've ever used. Also, the quality of each theme (there are many) is up there
with the best of them. Be sure to read the description on the page, seriously.

ChromEdit Plus
A very neat tool if you want to change certain, small (and/or many) aspects of your
browser. To be honest, I've only changed one thing, and after installing ^Foxdie^, I
realized I didn't need that change. You will need to either 1. learn/already know how to
code, or 2. find lists of ready-made codes. So here are a couple links to some lists of
nice codes 1, 2.

Note: This add-on doesn't work well with Foxdie. But I decided to keep both, ChromEdit could come in handy one day, maybe.

Tab Mix Lite CE
There is a Tab Mix Plus add-on, but I had a bunch of simple problems with it, and after
checking the forums, so did lots of others. But the makers of Foxdie suggest using Tab
Mix Lite CE instead, so I tried it. It doesn't give you nearly as much control of your
tabs as Plus, but it also doesn't have the problems (I haven't found any yet) that Plus
gives you. It does, however, give you just a bit more out of tabbed browsing, not much,
but who wouldn't want a bit more?

Customize Google
Everyone uses Google, or needs to. This add-on is more of an add-on to Google than Firefox. With many, many options to enhance Googling, such as streaming search results. Yeah. Streaming search results. As you scroll down the search page, more results are streamed there for you. I like it for image searching to. Even image results can be changed to link directly to the image, which should already be the default but whatever. That about sums up the highlights of this add-on.

Interclue
Interclue tooltip windows display content previews, useful extra information and relevant next actions for almost any link on the web. A truly user-centric design, "Clueview" tooltips show you only the most relevant content from linked pages, and can provide embedded viewing for images, mp3s and YouTube videos.

(Basically shows you information about sites.)

ClipMarks
Basically instead of having to bookmark an entire webpage, this lets you "snip" bits and pieces of the site so you can save them for further reference.

AdBlock Plus
Blocks unwanted ads on webpages. Right-click on a banner and choose "Adblock" from the context menu - the banner won't be downloaded again. Maybe even replace parts of the banner address with star symbols to block similar banners as well. Or you select a filter subscription when Adblock Plus starts up the first time, then even this simple task will usually be unnecessary: the filter subscription will block most advertisements fully automatically.

StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon discovers web sites based on your interests, learns what you like and brings you more. With StumbleUpon, you can also connect with friends and share your discoveries, meet people that have similar interests, and check out what other people are discovering.

ForecastFox
Get international weather forecasts from AccuWeather.com, and display it in any toolbar or statusbar with this highly customizable and unobtrusive.Get international weather forecasts from AccuWeather.com, and display it in any toolbar or statusbar with this highly customizable and unobtrusive extension.

DownThemAll!
The first and only download manager/accelerator built inside Firefox! DownThemAll is all you can desire from a download manager: it features an advanced accelerator that increases speed up to 400% and it allows you to pause and resume downloads at any time! (A must for dial-up users)

ChatZilla
A clean, easy to use and highly extensible Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client. ChatZilla provides all the usual IRC client features: multiple servers, a built-in list of standard networks, easy searching and sorting of available channels, logging, and DCC chat and file transfers, plus easy customization with JavaScript plug-ins and CSS styling.

Colorful Tabs
(I happen to really love this one.) Very Happy
Basically your tabs will change to more brighter colors, rather than the default grey. The tabs are easier to read, featuring Post-It Note-like colors.

ShowIP
Shows the IP address of the current website you're browsing.

Firefox Companion for eBay
A side bar which will keep you informed about your bids, and you can check on your items. Pretty handy.

FoxClocks
View the local time in many different countries around the world. If you have GoogleEarth, you can also check out where that country is located.

YouPlayer
This is a must-have add on for all video-site fans! YouPlayer is a video player with playlist similar to the one in Winamp. You may add/drag a YouTube, Google Video, Metacafe or MySpace link into a playlist window. When you double-click on it, it will be shown in the video window. You may drag a link to a browser window or right-click it and open in a new tab. You may also add/drag other links, thus the playlist will work as a bookmarker. YouPlayer also allows you to download video files! Just right-click it on the playlist and select 'download'.

Make sure you select "Stream search result pages" for Web and Images. Then search something on google, scroll to the bottom of the page, and then more results will be loaded underneath.
YouPlayer
I'm definitely going to try this one. It makes DownloadHelper seem silly to still be using, lol.

Speed Dial
Uses Opera/PS3-like bookmarking (or tabbing, whatever). It turns webpages into thumbnails and you can group them ALL into one tab, in many different groups. While using ordinary tabs the ordinary way. Pretty nice, but the thumbs are very ugly. I decided that the old Bookmarks toolbar menu is good enough, for me. Fast Dial didn't even work right, but the thumbnails are nicer :P

PicLens
Oh man, this one is a beauty. It completely changes the way you view Google, Photobucket, Flickr and DA images. Too bad those are pretty much all the sites PicLens works with. But, a highlight is that you can even search images from the fullscreen app. Although, the searching was a little slower than normal. Another cool thing is it works with CustomizeGoogle's streaming searches. BUT, it doesn't work with it's direct image linking (you'll need to turn that feature off in CustomizeGoogle Sad). Probably my favorite extension in terms of sexiness, too bad I like CustomizeGoogle too much to use this one, lol. But I do suggest giving this one a try, thre are a few other really nice features.

Auto Slideshow
This one is just like PicLens. It's not as pretty, but you can use it with any webpage that has images. All it does it collect each image on a page (or link to an image) and adds it to a slideshow, making it easy to save any image. I'm actually using this one, instead of PicLens.

Tab Overflow Scrollbar
Makes finding tabs easier when you have over ten open. It just needs a way to disable FF's default scroll left/scroll right arrows so things won't look too cluttered.

iMacros
If you do a lot of the same things online every day, with this you can record a lot of the repetitive stuff you have to do, and save it as a macro. So the next time you need to fill out pages of forms, or go through many pages to get to where you really want to go, you can just replay your macro and it does all of that for you, even while you continue to surf. I made a macro that signs me into genesiseve, continues pass the "processing login" page, and into the main forum, with one click (it used to take two clicks, lolz). I don't know why you have to sign into that forum just to view. I have the admin ability to change that, but dunno why I havent... :/

EDIT: No wait, DownloadHelper is waaaay better than YouPlayer. YP only supports 4 websites, DH... 525.
Also, I kept getting an error message when starting Firefox, because of iMacro.

For web developers, I recommend these somewhat handy tools.

FireBug
This one lets you find, and inspect the HTML of a page without picking through lines of source code, or even copying it to an editor!
Handy if you have hidden dynamic elements on the page and want to see if they are working or not.
It also does DOM, CSS, and a few other things.

I have noticed my Gmail account complains that I have it enabled. Told that it makes Gmail load slower, but I haven't noticed a difference.

HackBar
Not half as bad as you think it is. This tool lets (newbie) server script code developers check for hazards to their site (least that’s what I used it for.) It has a legal disclaimer on it about its use, so don't get any Ideas. Wink
If you know how to code, you really don't need it... but it is helpful to the unorganized and "messy" code system kind of people.

Similar to Firebug, this ad-on provides some useful tools to view the source of pages. It also contains some code validation tools, and well as a few other tools to let you test how well your site looks when placed in multiple resolutions.
It too can become useless after you've done all you need to with it.

I thought I was done looking for add-ons. But searching for some that help with tab control, I found some others worth mentioning.

Ok so I was hoping for an extension that would allow me to keep a tab safe from accidental closing, so I can keep a few open through unlimited sessions. I got the idea from Tab Mix Plus, but that add-on doesn't work well with one or more of my others (too lazy to go through and find which one). And Tab Mix Lite CE doesn't give you this option. I found PermaTabs do exactly that. And then I thought "well, having 3 or more permanent tabs open all the time won't leave me much room on my tabbar." Then I found FaviconizeTab that takes the tabs title away and just leaves the favicon. So it makes my tabbar look like this:

All tidy and awesome like.

Tab Effect
This is one of my new favorites. It adds a transition when switching between tabs. It's funny, because I forget I am using it, then all of a sudden it happens and it almost always surprises me. It's a cool effect, but it's a very limited add-on. There is only one transition to use, but it's a nice one, the only thing I don't like about it is the response time is slow. The graphic isn't that bad, anything better could slow your browser down or even crash it.

Follow That Page
This one sends you email about updates to selected webpages. I'm using it on a news site and it has an option to notify you when there is a text change on a page you choose. Which is good, because I don't want emails every time the site changes something non-news related.

Download manager Tweak
This mostly just makes your download manager look better with more options right there for you. The default download manager is ugly, this one looks better.

Firefox 3 has been released, so I figured I would give everyone a tip for the add-ons that are not FF3 compatible.

Here is how to make your favorite add-ons work with Firefox 3: (remember, I haven't checked this method with EVERY add-on, so if it doesn't work for you, don't be surprised. So far, it's worked with every add-on I have tried. Also, don't call me a god for giving you this awesome tip, I merely found it somewhere and discovered it works with many more add-ons than originally expected)

Ok, If you updated to Firefox 3, then you will need to log-in (or register) on the Mozilla Firefox add-ons website (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/) this way you can "ignore" the incompatibility notice and rightclick the green "Add to Firefox" button. Select "Save link as" or "Save target as" and save the .xpi file to your hard drive. Then open the .xpi file with whatever zip archive extractor you use. There will be a file in there called "install.rdf" hopefully.

Open it up, then select all of the text and copy it into notepad. In that text, look for a section that goes something like

! - Target Application this extension can install into - >
! - firefox - >

That means this is the section that makes the add-on compatible with a Firefox version. Now to define WHICH version Wink

! - em:maxVersion - > 2.0.0.*

Just change the 2 (or whatever primitive version you use) into a 3. Now save that file as "install.rdf." If you still have your archive extractor open, delete the original install.rdf file that was already in there (the one you opened and then copied all the text from) and then add your newly created install.rdf file to the archive. Extract.

Lastly, in Firefox, go to File>Open File and then choose your .xpi file. It will install like any other add-on.

Have fun, and attempt this at your own risk. Just be sure you understand what I wrote out before you try anything. It's not complicated. But ask questions if you aren't sure about something.

That max version is there for a reason. Changing it is probebly not a good idea. Unless the developer is completely afk, it's version would be bumped by now if it was actually fully compatible.
