My two favorite programs for graphic design are Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Photoshop is a raster-based program where one can create images based on brushstrokes similar to traditional drawing and painting. Illustrator, on the other hand, is a vector-based program that allows the user to create shapes and lines based on paths following anchors and angles. What's nice about vector art is that the images never get fuzzy no matter how far you zoom in because the images do not rely on pixel placement.

As for animation, Macromedia Flash is supposed to be very good. I have trouble with the program myself, but it is one of the most popular web animation programs in use. It's also vector based, which is pretty handy at times.

For Graphic Design, you work in multiple programs. I'm currently earning my degree, and I've used Quark Express, Adobe Freehand, Adobe Illustrator, very little Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign.

Riht now I am using a program called gimp 2 wich is similar to adobe illustrator. I just cant find the tool that lets u draw strait lines. The program uses layers and vector technology. I have an artists block right now but if anybody has any ideas on how I can learn to be more creative... I lost a little of my creativity when I was but a wii little spunky kid that liked to create stuff from nothing.
