I do not want to make this a big deal, but something is troubling me. Recently, I have submitted five pictures, and all of them were rejected for being drawn on lined paper. What I don't understand is why my submissions are just now being rejected for this reason, when I already have successfully submitted fifteen works of the exact same nature. I also do not understand why lined paper is looked down upon so severely. It's conveniences are almost unlimited; it's cheap, it fits in binders and report covers without interfering with the image, and it can be stapled without interfering with the image. It also helps me keep my frames straight, because I don't have the money or the time to get a non-slide ruler.

Then why did my first fifteen pages get admitted? Also, it may not be brain surgery to transfer a picture from lined to plain for [i]you[/i], but if you don't remember, or if you weren't at the roasting of my abilities (if you weren't, I'm not telling where it happened), then let me say now that I have pretty bad eyesight, so I can't re-sketch stuff, not even with a light table.

A little insight into the approval process: The approval CP displays pending submissions by thumbnails, and when approval staff members hover the mouse over them it displays a popup frame showing all the supplementary info ("Media", "References", pixel dimensions, Description, etc.) for that submission. This allows us to process most submissions quickly, from a thumbnail's glance.

Now comes linedpaper submissions. In most cases the lines show up clearly even at a thumbnail's glance, and those are quickly rejected. But there are a few cases, such as yours, where the lined paper isn't noticed from a thumbnail viewpoint (perhaps because of a complicated image, such as -- in your case -- comic strip panels) and therefore they "slip through".

But of course, the easiest solution for both of us is to grab ahold of some blank, non-lined paper. Printer paper, sketchbook or drawing pad, you choose.

But my comics aren't just for here. They need to be on notebook paper so they be displayed in a binder for my customers. I apologize if my complicated images slipped through the thumbnail system.

Ah, a hole punch. I hadn't thought of that... If I could appeal to a compromise, here... If you let me post the rest of my work that's already drawn on lined paper in its original format, I'll meet you halfway and do my future works on plain paper. Agreed?

You can get rid of lines in Photoshop. You should start doing that.

I appreciate the help, guys, but I actually had a better idea. I'll put my comic on my profile, and save my Picture Gallery for requests. That way, you can't veto any pictures because all requests will be on plain paper.

You can always trace them over if you don't have a scanner and/or Photoshop or something like that.

Carbon paper works real nice and you can get it at about any art store for a fair price.

Do you know of any tutorials on that by chance?

I have been fideling with trying to figure it out just for something to do and I have faild miserably, With images of lesser complexity than those ThePowerOfNoof has, which might explain why people are not doing it or even trying it.

I could make a tutorial later tonight. I want to get this paper written first.

In short, open the picture in photoshop. Adjust levels so a bit to make sure the lines are clearly blue. Open up the channels box, hold control, and click the blue channel. While the selected areas are still selected, go to Selection > Inverse. Make a new layer, Edit > Fill 100% black (or whatever colour). Delete the scanned layer. Tada.

This should work on most black and white drawings as long as you don't have an excessively excessive amount of shading.

'Course I took a class that dealt with photoshop so I learned it the long way.
At least now every one can see how simple it is and at least attempt it.

Yes, the B/W I was able to do rather easily, even by different methods, however the failure came in the form of color images. Even then a tutorial for the B/W drawings could be very useful to a large number of people.

With color images, I recommend you use the clone stamp or bandage tool.
Search around in the tool bar to the left side and you should find both of them there, they're relatively easy to use.

When using the Clone stamp holding the alt button down will bring up a cross hair-like cursor left clicking the area you want to clone FROM will set a place to clone from.
When you click again to clone, not holding the alt button this time, it will set the distance from your brush to you clone area, so be a little careful with cloning some times. You'll learn as you go too.

I don't have Photoshop, my program tools are arranged and some times named differently, I do have the clone tool though however. Even then I was having trouble especially with colored pencil images or Marker images.
