Or, really, graphite and scanners. Any tricks to making blacked out graphite areas not show up as lumpy and shiny in a scan? Haaaaalp

And I guess anything else on the picture, although I'm mostly interested in the scanning issue

Shade harder? Or reduce the amount of scanner sharpening. The contrast levels are fine, pencil just shows the paper's texture very well through itself.
