Rights recently signed up by producer Erwin Stoff (Matrix, A Scanner Darkly)The IFMagazine.com entertainment website reports that film producer Erwin Stoff (The Matrix, A Scanner Darkly) is developing a live-action adaptation of Sunrise's Cowboy Bebop multi-genre action anime series for Fox. Stoff told the website that the project is "in the really early stages" since the parties "just signed it the other day." Shinichiro Watanabe's original anime follows the motley crew of the spaceship Bebop as it travels throughout the solar system in search of the next job. Stoff promised "a real degree of faithfulness," and added, “When I met with them in Japan, one of the first things that I brought up was the experience that we had on A Scanner Darkly, and how hard we worked to remain faithful to Philip K. Dick, and that was our big concern here.”
The anime distributor Bandai Entertainment and Cartoon Network's Adult Swim programming block released the original 1998 television series in the United States, and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released the subsequent 2001 animated movie. The anime was also adapted into two separate manga series, and Tokyopop released both manga series in North America. A Bandai Entertainment representative was unable to publicly comment on this report.
...So far it looks promising, if he holds true to his word, this could be one of the best anime to LA adaptations we see. _________________ RPG-n. Cowboy Bebop is a series that has a lot of potential as live action. The character designs are fairly realistic and it's style is one that Hollywood could potentially pull off without fucking up.
However that said, they probebly will fuck it up somehow. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

I'm resurrecting this thread cause i just found out about this. keanu reeves is attached to play spike. this does not make me happy, but I'm still really excited.

http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/09/22/exclusive-keanu-reeves-says-cowboy-bebop-movie-getting-a-rewrite/
peter craig says his screenplay is faithful to the series, which aint always a good thing, just look at watchmen. I think it's going to be a little hard to find an engaging story-line that hi-lights the whole bebop crew, so there's two possibilities as I see it.
1. the movie sucks (infinitely more likely possibility)
2. the movies good and makes so much money fox can't leave well enough alone and they make a second movie that makes bebop fans vomit.
and for some reason, I'm optimistic. _________________ "Would you kindly?" |

keanu reeves constantine wasn't very faithful to the source material. John constantine always struck me as bit of a fool in the comics, I did'nt like how reeves potrayed him at all which is why I'm a little thrown as to why he would play spike... _________________ "Would you kindly?" |

you know who would be really good as spike? Johnny depp.
Edit: and since they're giving him everything else, why not have ryan reynolds as spike. _________________ "Would you kindly?" |

Johnny depp as spike sounds wicked. He is good in action movies, hell he could still kick ass even when having his eyes drilled out in once upon a time in mexico and he played a very good part in the movie about jack the ripper. I think he could be able to pull off Spike rather well. _________________ Our life is made by the death of others...

This concept itself is horrible. anime=live action version=FAILURE BEFORE IT EVEN GETS FILMED It's the same with video game movies. Although if It were up to me who'd be casted.....Good ol Arnie as Jet, Tom Cruise as Spike, and Gary Coleman as crazy ed. (yes i know eds a girl ) _________________ Day's of Our E-Lives. ;__; I saw Dragonball Evolution the other day on DVD. Ron Perlman as Jet I like, I believe he could pull that off rather well.
As for Johnny Depp, I don't know. As much as I like Depp, I do not think this would be a roll for him...let me rephrase that, I don't want to see him in this.
How would I cast it?
Spike - Keanu Reeves
Jet - Ron Perlman
Faye - Rachel Nichols
Edward - I have no clue here, I'd prolly have open auditions for this one, the roll can be predominately improved with little to no hinderance so experience if not a must.
Vicious - Thomas Kretschmann
Lin/Shin - Matt Damon
Julia - Julia Stiles
I would not be the least bit suprized to see Hollywood cast it as:
Spike - Keanu Reeves - Why...I guess his face kinda fits the profile
Jet - Ron Perlman - Why, they have to get at least one right
Faye - Angelina Jolie - Why...because her bra fit
Edward - Some No name actress
Vicious - Some no Name actor
Lin/Shin - some no name actor
Julia - Some No name actress _________________ RPG-n. A computer programing language designed for business reporting that generates specific programs from the users specifications.(Report Program Generator)The American Heritage Dictionary

I've never watched Cowboy Bebop, so I dunno.
Keanu Reeves does make great action figures.

One of my friends said that Bruce Willis should be Jet, but I have no clue who should be him. I can see Angelina as Faye, but there are other options as well. |

My last picks were a joke obviously. in all seriousness I don't think any actor American or japanese could pull off Spike. he's just to cool. as for jet someone like Chuck Norris would do, or Clint Eastwood. And for Faye...any holywood slutbag would work XD. I havreno clue how they're gonna do Ed though. _________________ Day's of Our E-Lives. My favorite show. |
