Isn't "anime" just a Japanese word for cartoon? By that definition it is one.

[color=red]Well you can know that by the characters style, Soul Calibur is an anime style arcade game.
And I personaly think Avatar is a US cartoon based on anime, so it is an anime, you can know that by just looking at the characters style(they are definitely drawed in anime style) their emotions, their moves etc...But if you can't see the difference between US characters and anime characters I would say..just watch some MARVEL stuff & Anime stuff and then compare them. I am sure you will see the difference then.[/color]

people think that anime can only come out of japan.
this is just not true and avatar is proof.
in fact avatar is the only way that anyone wanting to make and an anime series here in the US is going to do it.
the series is very popular that's a good sign it means that more studios will
open up to anime ideas.

In America some people call "anime" as a type of cartooning style, as some call our cartoons "western" animation.

You can make original anime-style series in America or Europe and it's still called anime because of the art style. Like for example, "Totally Spies" and "Teen Titans" borrowed an anime style but it called an anime cartoon (according to an anime magazine I have at home).

"Anime" doesn't always mean art that originated in Japan.
