I've been drawing realism for a few years now, and I want to try something more loose...I'm trying to develop a cartoony style, but I don't know what I'm doing. (I'm so scared of drawing cartoons! With realism, it's easy to tell what's 'good' or 'bad'...But it's so much tougher with cartoons)
So, I just want to know if I'm doing anything that can be really damaging to me in the long run, or something like that.
Here's my first attempt: http://www.fanart-central.net/pic-716095.html |

It's not bad, you're on the right track simply by trying.
To develop your own style, just draw. When you picture an instance in your head, draw it how you would initially draw it. Don't turn it into realism if it is not, and don't try to meld it into a pre-existing style. No one can tell you that it's wrong or should be changed, because you're tapping into yourself and inventing something new. The only way to develop your own is to keep at it and learn what you like about your lines and what you can do with them, and to build off of that. |
