Need help in charachters

Well, I promised my GF I would work on doing some childrens illustrations for her to write stories around and I am drawing a blank. I need some suggestions.

Problem is, she is suffering major artist block. The point of these drawings is to provide some inspiration to get the ball rolling again.

Hm, I did some illustrating jobs too, but I had the story to work with... Err... Does the writer have atleast something written, maybe she could show it to you for help. Or first try to define the way the main character(s) look, that helps you draw further.
