I've been here for a month or two, the people are great- and very nice. However the submission policy really is most annoying and frustrating. Its takes long enough submit and get through, then it can get rejected 'cause.. you didn't specify the character or some other minute reason Rolling Eyes That really is most annoying.

And one things that annoys me greatly, is the word "chibi's". Sorry FAC, they're not "Chibi's". Called super deformed Rolling Eyes So when I submit drawings of little voodoo doll sailor [i]senshi[/i] (not scouts), rejecting it saying it should be called chibis is wrong on two levels. 1) they werent "chibi's" 2) "chibi's" is the wrong terminology.

I really think small things like this is what DA has over FAC. Will hand it to ya though, I like your terms and conditions more then DA on most accounts.

I have lots of complaints over what certain categories are named, though sorting by character does make it a lot easier for people browsing to find pictures, and it only takes another second or two to put your picture in the right subcategory.

I'm thinking.. scrap the approval process. Just get mods to move pictures around once they've been submitted, add warnings, etc.

The approval process does entail a number of pains, however it is also deeply ingrained as a part of FAC's culture and abolishing it is not something that could be accomplished overnight. We can't just, say, "flick a switch" and disable the AP process. Not without a shole shitload (pardon the french) of reports and surprises from FAC's fanbase.

For example... the 3-per-day limit is also a deeply ingrained aspect of FAC's submission process. Back in 2005 there was a certain loophole in it, but whenever you had somebody submitting more than 3 pieces they would actually get [i]flamed[/i] for going over the limit.

I appreciate that thats how things work, and that I chose to join. Im just voicing what I think was wrong/ irritable imo.

See if it only took two second to put them in the right category it would be fine, however after waitng 4 or so day, to have a rejection notice saying "sorry, you didnt specify the character, wait another few days until we get back to you to check you clicked "sailor venus" " Or even

Me: submit pictures of the senshi as voodoo dolls..waits 3 or so days

FAC: Rejected, these are chibis

I guess that kinda really peeved me, they werent super deformed (as I assume FAC means).

Just sharing my tiny frustration with the site, dont worry, Im not a whiner that does nothing. I decided Im leaving =P DA just seems so much more appealing.

Delays in processing are another inevitable aspect of the approval process.

The one bright side is that things such as categorization are usually flagged as 'minor' so you can simply go back, quickly fix the issue and resubmit for a second opinion.

And yeah, dA's grown on me too. I don't have any staff obligations over there Smile

There would be way to many problems if the submission process was changed to much.

Just because it's something that's been around for a long time, doesn't mean that it's a good thing.

Minor rejections take little time to fix, but then you have to go through the whole waiting thing twice.

Changes I'd like to see in the approval process:

1. If the picture is just in the wrong category, let the staff move it to a new one, and have the site automatically send a message to the user telling them what happened. The way it's done now, the user has to figure out where it actually belongs, move it, send it in, wait [i]again[/i], and then the staff has to look at it again and approve/reject it. It's much less work for everybody if the staff member can move it, and the message would let them know not to do it again next time.

2. I've said this before but.. auto-reject pictures that are too large (unless the pictures are sent to certain categories, such as comic pages and memetic).

3. Auto reject pictures whose descriptions are too short. Some people would figure out how to get around this by adding tons of exclamation points, but you would at least get rid of the ones that just say "enjoy!" or ":)!"

4. Add more pre-typed rejection messages.
[list]- Crop out extra white space.
- Please adjust subcategory. (Because the default "category" reason is too vague.)
- Uninformative description. (Same thing, "details" is too vague.)
- The no lined paper and no photography ones should link to ways to get rid of the lines and to photo lucidity, respectively. Maybe adult picture rejections could get redirected to HF.
- Something along the lines of, "Pictures submitted to the unlisted category should include the name of the anime/movie/book/etc somewhere in the description/keywords/etc."
- Picture is too small.[/list:u]

5. Add more staff members. Make an application form available and come up with a test or something to make sure that they understand the submission policy. I'm sure there are people out there who'd like to help, but at the moment there's no way to find them and it's difficult for them to contact the staff. If they suck at it, remove them. If not, yay, short wait times for everybody.

One other thing.. for video games that have anime versions or are mistaken for anime sometimes (Kirby, Sonic, Kingdom Hearts, etc), make categories for them under anime, but have it actually go to the video game category. Most of these end up under unlisted anime.

#1 - Good idea (there's a "Move" option displayed on the APCP for staff with category access, that was originally at my request and has been in place for quite some time), not sure how to implement.

#2 - I don't believe this is something that can be screened at a technical level.

#3 - We already have a multiple-characters stripper running on picture titles (I forget the threshold, but it works), implementing it for picture descriptions and such shouldn't be too hard. In related news I also have a bbCode stripper coded to search for & eliminate empty tags.

#4 - Working on a full fledged CP for the editing, adding/removal of the rejection template messages. This shifts the burden of updating them from coders/developers to AP staff.

#5 - No comments at this time.

#6 - Just point out the category(s) and I'll do it. Adding multiple headings for an existing category is not a problem.

1. I actually see the move option, too. It just doesn't do anything.

3, 4. Ah, sounds good then.

6. The only addition to the list I can think of at the moment is Pokemon. I'm sure I'll compile a more comprehensive one in a couple of days when I don't have an exam for which to cram.

Small0bsession, thanks. By the way, I was the one who had mistaken your voodoo dolls for chibis. Sorry 'bout that. I don't spend too much time looking at individual pictures when doing approvals, because of the horrendously long wait time, which you already know about.

I agree with everything but these two.

2. Just because a picture is large, doesn't mean it's due to the artist not having the decency or knowhow to crop.
Some images are larger to show off the intricate details, that would otherwise be hidden or look crappy in a smaller size.

3. I don't see why a story should be requirement for a picture. If your art is good enough, shouldn't the picture tell a story, on its own?

[b]My own suggestion:[/b]
I'd like to see the three-per-day limit changed to five.
I realize that a limit is good to keep pictures from immediately disappearing from the front page (like on DA), but three is just such a tiny number.
Five isn't too much, or too little.

I only enforce the rules. I don't make any. I personally don't like the description minimum one either, but if those pictures have to be rejected, might as well make it automatically do that instead of requiring a person to manually reject it.

Most pictures that are too large are because of people failing to crop/resize before uploading. I think that most pictures that are rejected fail because of this reason. So again, it was a suggestion intended to cut down on wait times for approvals. I think the entire time I've been doing approvals I've only seen maybe.. 4 or 5 that were detailed enough for their picture size.

Even if the picture limit were five, the rate at which they're pushed off the page wouldn't change much. Pictures stay a long time when someone isn't doing approvals because site traffic isn't nearly as high as DA. If you submit something at night, it might still be there when you look again in the morning. If someone [i]is[/i] doing approvals then things will only stay on the main page for a few minutes. The limit is there to prevent a large build up of unapproved pictures (which doesn't really work, since there aren't enough people doing approvals anyway).

I don't see how the limit is really annoying. It's really only a problem when you first make an account, since you'd have a bunch of pictures you've already done. Three finished pictures in one day is a lot. I don't think a change from 3 to 5 is necessary, though I would not object to it if it were to happen.

Odd. I didn't even know there was a minimum description requirement.
So many things seemed to have changed since I was last here.

And eh. I think it's a small amount, but I may just work a lot faster than other people.
If I don't get distracted, or try to multitask too much, I can usually spit out a decent picture every 2 or 3 hours. Sometimes less, depending on the style and medium.

These are valid points in theory, but not quite as sound in practice. We have unfortunately seen newbies uploading pictures almost directly from their scanner or digital camera at resolutions of 150, 300, and even 600 dpi -- yes, we have actually seen submitted images weighing in at over six and seven [i]thousand[/i] pixels per side (I think the all-time record is around 9,000). While the age-old "fine details" argument is true to a point, there's a certain threshold beyond which it is just plain unreasonable. And most of the submissions we reject due to size fall into the latter category.

As for image descriptions (a required field to begin with), this is one of the clues that can help draw the line between a genuine submission, a random image copy-pasted from elsewhere on the 'Net, and an art thief or impersonator. The "Media" field is a similar matter -- taking even sixty seconds to (properly) fill something into these fields can help us tell the difference between an acceptable submission and a copyvio or image rip.

Pokemon
Kirby
Sonic
Kingdom Hearts
Final Fantasy
Legend of Zelda

Move Alice in Wonderland from Books > Fairy Tales to just Books. It makes it hard to find.

I need clarification on whether or not Sims2 screenshots are allowed to be submitted? It seems like things made in poser or Daz studio are fine.
