Brian K. Vaughn is a great writer. his works include already established heroes, like his run on ultimate x-men and other original ideas(Ex Machina, Pride of Baghdad, runaways) but i think his best work is Y: the last man. anybody read it. its really a cool story. Movie is in the works currently and D.J. caruso is attached to direct but check this series out before it hits the big screen.
