Most other sites don't even have a forum section for hosting contests anyway, which is probably why users end up hosting them on their journals or profile space anyway.
That's not to say it's a bad thing, I just don't see it relating to the 'do-or-do-not' examples that this policy is meant to address. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I kinda like the Terms of Service and user policy thing. That random topic in the forum being locked was a huge suprise when I came onto the forums today. I like the idea of limiting contests only to the forums, though, as I agree it would promote forum use. It's too quiet around these parts of late. _________________ The Force will be with you... always. |

That was due to over-use of the post reply button. (I'm sure it's only temporary. For how long, I don't know.)
You know the My Settings on the right side of one's user page? What about the idea of adding something like, "Create Contest"(at the bottom of the list), then it links to the Contest Forum? (Silly idea, but I'm just throwing it out there.) It might direct more people to the forums. |

It's a nice idea, however the forums use a different login mechanism than the mainsite and I don't think it will let us combine login and new-topic into the same HTTP request. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Aww, shame. That really sounded a cool idea. And there's no way around it?
PS: I'd be happy to try to be a moderater for the random section of the forum, in case it ever comes back? _________________ The Force will be with you... always. |

Dude, wtf is up with closing random? You can demilitarize us if you want and we'll acknowledge denis and strata as the mighty overlords of the mainsite or whatever. Just give us our homeland back.
Close for porn. Leave the complaints and off-topic things open. There's a reason it's random and not general discussion. You're being silly. _________________ Go Yankees! |

I'm sure we can hack something together, but it's better to abandon contests forum and build it proper on the main site. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

Actually, now that I have done some more baking on the proposal I was making for PL, it would rely on something like that. A single login request for both main and forum access. After that DOAL's suggestion is just a question of adding a link to the main page, or perhaps the profile pages.
I think combining the login is a must, this is still the only fleet of sites I am a part of with seperate logins for main site access and forum useage. (Also a major contributer is why I asked some tima ago about switching forums) _________________ RPG-n. A shared login would be a major boon but is subject to a number of limitataions such as same-domain cookie restrictions and we just haven't studied how phpBB2.0 handles its login mechanism in the first place.
(Which is another reason that some time ago I suggested just splitting mainsite/forums completely) _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Same domain isn't an issue, since our current login cookie supports subdomains.
studying phpBBs cookie does need to be done tho. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

Another revision.
ADDED:
- Complaints about site staff are listed as "discouraged" behavior. We're open to discuss complaints in a calm, civil manner; this is just a warning that we will not address complaints delivered in an inflammatory or offensive manner. We don't get paid to be site staff, this is completely volunteer work and we do have our limits.
REVISED:
- Different wording regarding the subject of roleplaying. Somebody's spreading a rumor that RPing will become a bannable offense and I'm the one who has to do damage control and straighten out confused users. We've had an RP section in our forums for years, we are not banning roleplay behavior itself, just asking that members please use the forums.
DISCUSS:
- Chain letters. Do we classify that as generally 'prohibited' or generally 'discouraged' ? I'm not sure here. "Discouraged" stuff is for things that wouldn't be possible and/or fair to prohibit outright, but which we still need to place restrictions on and set rules. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

prohibited - IMHO _________________ RPG-n. A computer programing language designed for business reporting that generates specific programs from the users specifications.(Report Program Generator)The American Heritage Dictionary

Prohibited, but making it banable on first offense would be extreme. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

New draft. The major changes:
- Slight wording tweak to introduce the TLDR version.
- Added complaints about site staff to the "discouraged" portion of section 2, with a major disclaimer that we want to hear it, just not in a rude manner.
- Mentioned that comments are not truly 'deleted' and can be accessed by site admins at any time. It is not necessary to screenshot an offensive comment before removing/reporting it.
- Added short mention of using our site to participate in anything that's obviously illegal. If it can get you into real trouble, we don't want anything to do with it. New (and possibly final) update for the draft. Changes:
- By request, moved chain letters from "discouraged" to "prohibited" behavior. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
