A new version of the site is almost here. We just need some people to help do final testing of it and find any bugs we missed.

[b]Major Changes[/b]
* Oekaki submissions.
* Scraps system. Please refer to your Watchlist CP --> http://rc.fanart-central.net/user.watchlist.php
* Polls on front page of the site.
* "Preview" button on the comments form.
* Improved search engine (with built-in help). It is now possible to restrict searches to * specific users or categories.

[b]Minor changes[/b]
* Now possible to remove your user account without requiring site staff.
* Shorter registration form, doesn't look so intimidating when signing up.
* Password verification is now required when changing your email address.
* Usernames must now begin with a letter, this is to support the development of friendly URLs in the future.
* Some profile page settings, such as your featured submission or gallery snapshot, can now be updated without leaving the page.
* Internal improvements to the bbCode parser, such as not breaking up long URLs anymore.
* Much improved admin tools.
* Several minor visual improvements.

[b]Testing[/b]
The release-candidate of the new version is available at http://rc.fanart-central.net/ . It runs off the site pictures and database as the main site, so anything you do there will be the same as the main site. Of course, some items in the new version like Oekaki submissions and scraps that don't exist in the old version, will not work correctly on the old site.

Yes! In the edit profile section, one now has the option of removing their profile image! I really wanted that option. Small changes, so far. I like the idea of the poll at the front page. That's cool.

Anyone actually doing tests with the RC domain? For example, a bug:

- "Reply" button doesn't work on Classic skin.

It's a very obvious one, too. Better make a mainsite announcement so we can get some wider testing.

ok, i think i found something...

when you submit a picture into the RC domain, it tells you that it got put into the submission queue, but when i looked in my gallery, it was already there because i had auto-approve. fix?

Come to think of it, you're right, I've encountered that one myself....

I've located the problem and submitted a fix for it (effective tomorrow). Thanks for the report.

I've tried the new FAC and i haven't found any bugs yet, i was wondering though, with the scraps, if a pic is uploaded to scraps the scraps gallery from a user your watching do you get a notification e-mail?

Scraps are a separate notification option -- e.g: [url]http://rc.fanart-central.net/user.watchlist.php[/url].

And speaking of which, I just spotted another bug wherein the Scraps notifications weren't firing.

...And another bug where you can't add new artists to your Watchlist (unless absolutely no one else is watching them -- yes I know that sounds weird but that's the bug) . Damn that is a big one! Sad

Fixes are on the way and can be tested tomorrow morn.

I noticed the "start slideshow" button underneath my gallery. I've tried opening a slideshow in both IE8 and Firefox latest version browsers but it doesn't load/open anything. Should it be working?

Plus when I view my scraps folder in my gallery the buttons/links at the top disappear ;pictures, scraps, stories, pending. Maybe it should also be the same with the Pending section to keep it consistent.

Is it possible for the "favourite pictures" section on your profile show "random" or "most recent" pictures you've favourited instead of the most popular ones?

Not that I don't like looking at the same awesome artworks all the time, but it would be nice to have some variety especially if you've favourited many artworks and the same 5 are always showcased on your profile... whether that makes a difference in advertising for other people ot not I would still like that option.

Overall, I really like the extra features. ^^ haha I kind of went crazy scrapping heaps of artwork and reading horrible descriptions I had written ages ago...

Ouch, that is another big one. It is SUPPOSED to be displayed there . . . okay, I see the problem. Fix is in the works.

Consider it done. Showing them by random() will have to wait, but I agree with the rationale for showing them by recent. In fact, makes me wonder why nobody suggested this before (and I mean like [i]years[/i] before) ?

This was supposed to be debugged or removed before rc but I forgot about it.

- Filters (sort order, mature content, etc.) don't work.

Another one that is painfully easy to encounter or reproduce.

- Chapter titles (and subsequent links) not displaying on story summaries.

Seriously. This doesn't inspire much faith in the quantity (much less quality) of testing that a new release needs.
