I know this site doesn't accept photographs as art, but we are allowed to do memes, so what about room memes?

You take a picture of your room and put it on the meme. Technically, it's still a photograph, so I guess room memes aren't allowed? ;[ I want to make sure before I submit one. xD

That is correct, it's still considered photography which we've chosen not to allow.

pictures of real people in cosplay outfits and they were taken with a camera.

The cosplay thing: If they CREATED the outfit I believe it is allowed. And trust me alot of skilled artists ive seen make their outfits, its possible.

The meme thing. I think if you created the [i]template[/i], bled, and sweat over it for hours. It might be allowed. Im NOT entirely sure on this however so dont quote me on this one. Confused

Sarah's correct. Technically speaking if you created a meme template than it would be acceptable, but artistically speaking I hope you did more than just provide some empty boxes and 12pt Arial instructions.

She's correct about costume photography, where it's a photograph of the costume itself (or person in said costume). In this case the photograph isn't drawing attention to itself [i]as a photograph[/i], it's used to convey the costume as a creation of the artist. It is still a borderline case, though.

The meme : As strata said, you gotta really work hard on the meme, this is the reason they and wallpapers arent allowed anymore. I mean once you get the hang of a photoshop or another program you can pretty much edit anything if you have the right skill but the fact will still remain that it is a photograph. However kudos to you if you created the [i]meme template[/i] hence why this type can be allowed.

About the costume thing: I've seen ALOT of people get confused about created and really [i]really created[/i]. Some people think that if you throw an outfit together from a closet that looks like the characters outfit (example: sasuke's outfit) that that is their creation. No this is not true. Let me explain why: You did not sew the outfit, buy the fabric, stitch and add the belts and iron or sew on the Uchiha symbol on the back of the shirt.

Sure you may have printed out the Uchiha crest and put a saftey pin through the back of your shirt connecting the symbol to the back of the shirt but come on that's not gonna fly people.

This is why I didnt submit my picture of myself as 2nd state Sasuke. I didnt make the outfit, I just found the right clothes for it, bought the make up, fangs, and nails yadda yadda. Hope that clears up any confusion as to why some outfits are allowed and some arent. Wink

Correct.

If you MADE the costume (as in, you sewed everything, made the acessories from scratch, made the fursuit, etc) then it's allowed. If you are in a fursuit/costume that someone else made, I don't thin that's allowed either since you did not make it. And lastly, if you just grabbed some random clothes together and that's it, then that's not allowed.

Also, photography of tattoo designs/body art is allowed if you came up with the design yourself.

A question. Would photography of body makeup (like you made your face look like a tiger, etc) and culinary foods you've made (like if you made a cake of InuYasha) be allowed?

I had a similar question years earlier when I asked Strata would my doodle on a graphing calculator be allowed and he confirmed it, Denis did too.

tl;dr version:
Photography is allowed IF and only IF the object you are photographing was made by you only.
