Atheism Clarification

What is atheism? Do they believe in evolution? Or do they not believe in anything? Although evolution does not involve the belief in a higher power, it is still a belief that we came from somewhere. So do atheists believe in evolution or do they just not believe in anything all together? I am not saying that I think atheism is right or wrong. I just want clarification on exactly what it is.

Atheism is the belief that gods do not exist. There isn't really more to it than that.

The first part of the above post is good. The second part is not.

Evolution being controlled by a god or some higher being is called "intelligent design," not "evolution." It cannot be validly termed a "theory."

i don't believe in anything at all. people say I'm an atheist but I'm not. I'm not shit. I don't associate myself with any belief religious or whatever. i don't like being branded with religious tags

An atheist is not a religious follower. Atheism is not a religion itself. If you reject the idea of gods, you are an atheist. It's a word that describes what you are, it's not a club that you join.

Atheists believe that science and evolution takes precedence over religions that focus on a god. I don't worry nor care about where the universe came from or why it exists. I am a believer of nothing but freedom of Speech, something you seem to hate.

Atheism is not the worship of science. It is true that many atheists believe in evolution, big bang, etc, but it's not a requirement. The only thing that atheists all have in common is that they don't believe in gods.

Does this make Edward Elric of FMA an Atheist? I did hear him say to Scar that he stopped believing in god after all what happened to him when Scar told him to start praying when he was going to try and kill him after blasting Ed's arm off.
