ALTERNATE UNIVERSE

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE

AND BY THE LOGIC THAT IT IS ENDLESS, THEN THEORETICALLY, PRETTY MUCH THAT WHOLE BOOK OF LOGIC GOES OUT THE WINDOW

Solaris is an atheist because he meets the criteria. If he doesn't want to be an atheist, he would have to join a religious institution or become more spiritual.

Edward Erlic have dialogues which can make people suggest that he is an atheist character, but many things such as belief in soul and practice of alchemy suggests that he believes in a supreme creator and arbitrary laws of the universe, which atheists reject. His beliefs remind me of shamanists who don't necessarily believe in God, but believed in souls and the afterlife interaction with the real world. This is frequently a characteristic in anime as Japan itself is nonreligious, but a spiritual country.

The definition of atheist is those who reject supreme creator or gods.

These people can be people who reject God because it is incoherent with the scientific facts, which I think are the most common out of the group.

Or people who reject God purely from an empirical stand point (ie. why did my cats die?)

Or they can be people who have an underlying philosophy that doesn't need a supreme creator for them to make sense of the universe. Most confucian philosophies do not need "the beginning" to tell people how the life should go on. As a result, most former Confucian countries, China, Korea, are atheist.

Or People just don't care, and are too busy to consider where they came from and the consequences they face after they die. They just don't care.

It's not contradictory at all, like I said, many specific (clear distinctions in who is, and who is not) definitions are loose (groups that meet the criteria are diverse) because there are many, many factors that meet one criteria, which is the reject of a supreme creator. Just because you keep repeating it doesn't make it true. Glenn Beck raped and killed a girl in 1990. etc.
