do you think Fan art central should delete their Lined Paper rule? And do they know that sketchbooks are expensive. I bet they also don't know that masterpieces can be born on lined paper. For generations children have been drawing on lined paper. And lined paper can make a great picture as well as blank paper. Reply to this post if you want to ask everyone of fanart central to make a petition abolishing the lined paper rule. Shocked

We don't enforce the linedpaper rule like we used to, particularly now that we have a Scraps system in place.

In the meantime, we still recommend that you should be drawing on blank paper (i.e. get a sketchbook) so that you don't have to resort to whatever material is "on hand".

Go to your local dollar store, you can find them in the stationary section for a dollar.

Actually, dollar store stationary is cheap. The paper is very cheap. I want good quality. and plus, my parents are like blah! they think i should use my own allowance. and they hardly give me any allowance. But still... Lined paper should be allowed for the official gallery. I was looking at prices today... 8.99 for a good quality sketch book. I don't want dollar store stationary because the paper rips easily.

I agree that the staff should not discriminate against drawings done on lined paper.

I'm also kinda wondering why you draw on lined paper if you think that dollar store paper is of poor quality. Unless you have really awesome lined paper or something.

You are shopping at the wong stores, I can get a fifty page book of 9x12 Canson Bristol board for less than that.

Lined paper does sprout some good ideas and sometimes masterpieces. The blue lines actually give me guidelines for my drawings.

However, I'm scared that completely abolishing the lined paper rule might bring out an increase in pictures on lined paper as submissions. My rule is that unless that picture on the notebook paper is one heck of a picture(aka: something that you've worked long and hard on with details and a creative idea), then don't submit it. Lined paper is not completely RESTRICTED, but you'll have to admit that it's not that professional. It's distracting seeing a good picture, and blue lines are spanning all over it too. Do your best to bring out your ideas on blank, white paper.

About your want for good quality paper= Remember that the quality of the paper doesn't reflect your skill as an artist. Different paper has different textures and different advantages. Use what you have, and as long as you put good effort into your pictures, they'll look good on whatever paper you use.
Use what you have....
Multipurpose printer/copy paper makes suitable surfaces for drawing. Not much depth or texture to it but it's pretty durable and clean. I used to do that in college all the time, whatever sheet or handout the professor gave us for the lecture, once it was done I'd scribble all over the backside.

Your argument does not make sense.

Also, as far as I know, the lined paper rule is fairly lax, just submit them, see what happens.

What I said up at the top.

"No linedpaper" is, however, still one of our stock reject notices, we should address that.

Actually not ALL masterpieces are born on just lined paper. The very first sketching of Kratos by the art director when it came to the creation of his 'chain blades' was done on a napkin. Wink

Also I agree with luckylace, if you completly kill the rule, alot of people are going to abuse this and just submit lined paper drawings. And when it comes to blank paper, do what strata says, go with printer paper, hell I dont use my printer anymore so I use the paper from it. I bought this printer paper in 2007-ish and im STILL not halfway through it all! Lined paper is good every now and then, but you go through it soooo much quicker than printer paper. IMO that is.

tl;dr.

FAC should sell Sketch books at lower prices than wal-mart.
Maybe put a custom logo on it or something. :v

My 2 cents.

Can we say "Funding" for the site?

Sadly, as with any business venture one needs the capital to purchasse the products. I like the idea we just don't have the money.

Well. You don't need any start up cash. There are websites where you can upload pictures for use on shirts, mugs, etc. When someone buys it, they make the product, ship it for you, and you get some money from the sale.

The problem is I don't think anybody would buy them. The cost to buy a sketchbook online and have it shipped to your house would probably be higher than whatever the cost to buy a sketchbook from wal-mart is. You'd basically only buy it if you wanted a sketchbook specifically with the FAC logo on it.

Contenental US and Canada would not cost more than seventy five cents to ship. Shipping rates for stationary is not as ballistic as many think, not that it matters, it is a bit of a novelty. Personally I'd happily own an FAC coffee cup....but that's just me. Laughing

Uhhh. It already costs over a dollar just to ship a letter in a regular envelope from Canada to the US.

A journal with a custom cover and blank pages on cafepress is $15+ including shipping. Wal-mart sells sketchbooks for as low as $8. If you wanted to bother getting a sketchbook that has a fancy cover, the average FAC user would probably want one with Harry Potter or Sonic on it instead of Pheral.

And if anyone is looking for custom mugs/shirts, try http://www.printfection.com/
