I only know of Gilmore Girls and Family matters ( I think) that have been on for a pretty long time. That's from what I know, I don't have many channels, lol
What are some others? _________________ |

What do you consider long? 4 or 5 seasons is about the average length of a series. But a lot of good shows run up to around eight. If it's a story-per-episode like CSI then it can go on forever, but other shows like Lost and Prison Break, with a season/series long storyline to follow, usually don't have much to hold onto after 3 or 4 seasons and tend to overstay their welcome. Unless they have really good and creative writers. I'd say anything 7 seasons and over is long running. Once that 4th season is over, the cancellation buzz starts and many shows get replaced by new blood.
My fave show, Smallville, is entering it's 10th season this fall. It's always been a cheesy show, but when season 7 ended, the original show runners exited the show, including 5 of it's main cast members! Then a few of it's best writers, including the leading actor, took over the reigns. So seasons 8 and 9 have been excellent. And the final season looks very, very promising.
Some of my favorite long running shows would be:
The Shield - 7 seasons
24 - 8 seasons
CSI - 10 seasons
Entourage - 7 seasons
Monk - 8 seasons
Scrubs - 9 seasons _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |

Law and Order and Dr Who have lots of seasons and spin-offs, though I'm too lazy to look up exactly how many.
X-Files had 9 seasons. _________________ Go Yankees! |
