How is telling someone "dont worry about it" telling them what to do?

Some girl got mad at me for telling her not to worry about this issue and now she's threatening to punch me

Hmmm she sounds like she has a short fuse to me. =/
Did you tell her it doesnt concern her if it really doesnt? Or you should tell her in a calmer way (If you already didnt) that you dont want her to freak out over something that might be nothing at all. Hopefully this advice will help. x.x

Oooooo yikes. I know how that feels, gotta sister who flies off the handle too. And what's worse is she's now preggers argh. x.x

Well the best thing to do with someone like that is to talk to her calmly but dont act as if you are talking to a child. Trust me my sis always thinks that when I speak to her. Plus she flies off the handle when I answer the phone sleepily thinking i sound irritated with her when im really not.

I couldn't tell you...I usually avoid giving advice or suggestions...

I don't want to hear someone telling me, "You're raining on my parade!" if I feel what they're doing or getting into is adverse...

On the other hand, I don't want to hear, "Well, you said it was cool!" if I give them the high sign, and tell them to go for it, and the situation proves to be disasterous...

I do not like the girl's temper, but I will note that "Don't worry about it" is in fact a command and declarative statement. Thus, you are technically telling her what to do.

However, as many speech-lingo goes, it is not a demanding statement unless the person being told thinks it is a demanding statement, so it is allll in her head. The normal people I know would see "don't worry about it" as a sign of concern, understanding, and wanting to make a friend feel better about some things.

Gerardthedevil, don't worry about it.
