The site staff has decided to bring back [b]site staff-hosted contests [/b]around the first week of October!

"If somebody else wants to do it I think it could be a good idea to start again sometime later this year." -cstdenis (evil overlord of FAC)

[b]Details:[/b]

-It will be a [b][color=orangered]Halloween[/color][/b] contest (I will mainly be in charge of it)
-[b]Prize:[/b] Posting the winner on the site news (this will be an alternative to those who still do not completely qualify for featured pictures or are too new to be popular)
-We have until about October 5, 2011 to give me some [b]interesting[/b] Halloween contest theme ideas for the first official FAC contest of the year
-With the help of an administrator, I will advertise the official contest theme around [b]October 10, 2011[/b] on the main site, forums, and on my own profile
-Personally, I think this first contest should be judged by the site staff on skill, creativity, etc. Having a "popularity" voting system for the winner of the contest will be unfair since even the good artists here are not that popular

This is the first contest, so I highly advise all kinds of opinions on the style/running/theme/aspects of this contest, even if they sound stupid! If we do not fully flesh out this contest system in the beginning, it will stay quite concrete at the end, so tell me your thoughts now!

[b]1.[/b] Create your own monster, and draw the transformation for how it becomes what it is (it can start off from a larvae, egg, infected person, etc.)
[b]2.[/b] Draw your favorite game/anime/original characters dressed up as other game characters or zombies
[b]3.[/b] Draw a Halloween masquerade party (show off all your gruesome/exquisite masquerade ideas!)
[b]4.[/b] What is under your bed? In your closet? You hear something creeping in there.
[b]5.[/b] Draw a haunted/creepy area (ex: haunted house, cemetery, etc) you would NOT want to tricker treat in
[b]6.[/b] Draw the most clever/funny Halloween outfit you can think of (can be put on any type of character)
[b]7.[/b] Personify your favorite Halloween candies/ turn them into monsters or draw the most gruesome Halloween feast you can think of
[b]8.[/b] You open the door to a spooky house/room. What's behind it?

Well, I will certainly make my best effort to participate. Smile

It sounds like fun, really. This site is the first to ever get me involved in contests.

I'm glad you're making an effort to make the judging be unbiased. I like to see things judged based purely on skill and creativity, rather than "Ooh, this person has more friends!"

Speaking of friends, I'll try to drag some of them back here to get involved in the contest. This site needs more activity!

AHAHA the reason why I choose a specifically fun holiday like Halloween is because during the normal school days, these sites are ghosts towns. Many members here are young (I'm an immature youngen too! ;O), so they must go to school and whatnot. A holiday will be a good starting point.

......NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, I think I have to go to school on Halloween Day. ;A;

Do you have any special ideas for this Halloween contest since you are already expressing interest in it?

One of my ideas would be:

Sadly, no, I don't have any ideas. Half the time, I can't even think of a good themed picture to draw, lol. That idea sounds interesting though. I'll bet a lot of people could run with that.

Or how about this for an idear? It's not much but hey it's worth a shot!

Draw your favorite game characters dressed up [i]as other game characters[/i].

For example: The MK gang sporting outfits from Assassin's creed.

Or KH dressed as the characters from American Mcgee's Alice. (This is a game btw, just released the sequeal a few months ago I think.)

The same could be done for anime characters too.

I am always such a sucker for crossovers lol. xP

Okay! I added them in. These ideas will most likely build up the poll choices for the certain genre/theme we want for the first contest on the main-site.....maybe.

...Or maybe a good theme and just initiating it for the first contest would be better? Yeah, I think I should do that. LATER should the polls be used for new contest ideas.

The theme is a little too specific, since not many artists are actually game players. We'll leave that one out.

Could even make it more general; "your favorite character" and so including games, anime, comics, etc.

Some people do not care for the mascot. Some do not even know what the second mascot, Sam, is.

We need a theme that is not too based on just dressing up as one's favorite character. That makes an almost ordinary cosplay theme. A theme more concentrated towards the fright of the night and mystery of Halloween would serve a better purpose.

Things like, "Design the scariest looking mask you can think of," or something fun sounding like, "Draw what is under your bed" is more what we are going for.

How about drawing a haunted mansion? Make it as scary as possible? Complete with green light coming from the windows. Nice idea, though, to bring back the yearly contests. It's been too long since that one that was to redesign the front page mascot/logo.

I added Crystal's idea in. I broadened that "haunted mansion" idea into choosing whatever creepy area they can think of since some people are better at drawing landscapes than architecture. They could even design pictures like this for that theme:

I think at this point, we're just discussing what the contest will be. And anyway, as the contest isn't official yet, it'd probably be a good thing to draw something specially FOR the contest, instead of using an old piece of art. Smile

The point is, we're not HAVING the contest yet. I feel that contest entries should only qualify if they've been submitted AFTER the official beginning of the contest.

Besides, as stated, we don't know what the contest is going to be yet. This forum is discussing potential subject matter, not potential entries at this point.
