I JUST heard about this law. W T F? How is it possible for anyone in the modern technology age to want this law?

The polititions in house/senate are not in the modern technology age. What they do know is the lobbyists who gave them lots of money want this.

He could never possibly have delieverd on any of it because as president his actual power is pretty limited. It's congress that makes laws, not the president. All he can do that is special is veto.

No worries Sarah. People are rebelling against it wholeheartedly. I am just surprised it was actually...proposed. That law is basically censoring the Internet, and since the web is a system of free expression, it is like censoring our right of speech. At that point, we could always bring out the good ol' Constitution.

Our politicians may not have been born into the modern technology age, but they are still living in it. Those politicians are not ignorant enough to not understand that if they want to win real favor for office, they need to win over the youth, and the Internet is the youth. Supporting this law is shooting themselves in the foot. They are only reaffirming the claims of their narrow-mindedness and bias ways from the Occupy Movement; the last thing they want is for every other modern non-Occupy citizen to join the rebellion.

Cool The majority of presidents do not fulfill even 1/3 of what they say in their inaugural and office speeches. (*cough* Except Teddy) I thought we would have realized by now that that is something we have to accept. We vote in the one we think is the lesser of two evils, not the best, so saying, "Wha, he didn't do everything he said he would!" is just another ignorant American thing to say. Never expect a superman to come into office, whether he is black, Asian, gay, or Superman himself. At least Obama is making progress in the economy recovery.

They say the Committee chairman is scheduling the bill for markup (debate, amend, rewrite) on December 15, 2011.

Then again, I got that from Wikipedia, so my information credibility is really going down the gutter right now.

The US government censoring the internet is nothing new.

Hitter was actually a good leader. He brought Germany out of a depression with a higher unemployment than the US ever had. He was just a bad militaristic leader. Laughing

Since he managed to take over a large chunk of Europe I'd say he was a good military leader.

Of course that is the problem too. Well, that and the whole genocide thing.

But yeahs, I still say this bill is retarded, as are all the other ones to try and censor the internet. What is wrong with the bigwigs nowadays? --
What they still stuck in the 1950s?

Ha! he wasnt a "good leader" He ruled with fear and had people killed if they failed to serve him in the ways he thought they should...point is, Hitler was a monster, and if you notice how history tends to repeat itself in one way or another...he comes out of nowhere and takes over all the countries economic staples

like I already said...and while it served a good purpose in a few ways...it was a horrible orrcurance in more than 100 ways...so you see where I fail to agree with you. Rolling Eyes

Confused I did not say he was a good leader MORAL wise. Of course we cannot forget about his crude and genocidal ways. However, you cannot argue that his rule worked for Germany. Any leader can rule under peace. A "good" leader can rule under chaos, and with Germany's economic and social conditions with the Treaty of Versailles and the depression in the 30s, not to mention World War II, he is considered one of the greater world leaders. I can go into more detail, but I do want this to stay "mildly" on topic. Are we seriously comparing Obama to Hitler? Honestly, he is not. that. bad. How would you handle this economic instability? The economy system works in fluctuation; it will keep going up and down whether we do good/bad things or not. If he stands around doing nothing with the economy, people are going to complain. If he takes action and makes mild progress with flaws, people still complain. I would rather have the lather than nothing at all.

Sorry about that, I think what I meant to say was his huge military blunder with attacking Russia overshadowed his military prowess. I am not sure why I worded it simply as "bad militaristic leader." ;-;

I thought the SOPA thing was something Internet-strong people knew about, but my friend Stephanie at school was talking about SOPA out of the blue in the dorm room. It is nice to know there are other people already hearing about it. I like it when people know before they pass the bill.

Preventing piracy is just what they want you to think, but the government isn't full of software specialists that will prevent any of it. Rather than letting companies do it and prevent it themselves like they do now, they think that things need to be taken into their own hands. So in essence, rather than letting computer specialists try and prevent it, they're going to censor everything and claim they did it.

"Oh, look. I'm the government. I think that people need to stop stealing in stores. So I'll just make a detailed process where you have to give your name, address, and SSN every time you enter a store to prevent it. Please support me."

Its pathetic in my opinion, and the fact is that even if this passes it still won't stop people. Hacking will rise even more, people will merely pirate things to eachother through memory i.e hard drives, flash drives, etc. There's plenty of other ways too like software sources that could be spread through text even to pirate it. For clarity I'm not trying to say I expect a senator to build a security system for this all, not at all, I'm no fool. I'm just saying when they're writing these bills, it isn't from a computer expert's perspective to which it could actually be useful and not a over-extended idea to try and stop something. e.g The difference between nuking something and slapping it on the wrists if you catch my drift.

My father thinks they're doing it for the money, but honestly I'm not seeing it if anyone would like to shine some light on that subject.

EDIT: Also, I should note that Obama did send in a bill around his first month of office to completely remove the internet. Didn't pass with flying colors.

Not very sure; I'll look for it though. Let me get back to you on that. I'll edit this post and PM you if you don't notice.
