Well...-ponders how to put this- Pretty much as I said, if it looks like they are 'mating' like animals...no beautiful depictions or emotions on faces or in the eyes towards their comrad in such a blissfull act, then I consider it a tad raunchy. Especially err...rape-ish pics or very naughty poses etc.
Keep in mind I have yet to see art on here that makes me think 'whoa now is this allowed?' since alot of the people seem to get what you just pointed out. Elegance in the 'after dark' depictions. x3
Yeah, I understand what you mean. The majority of the artist here on FaC do a good job of keeping it decent, but I also contribute it to the staff for upholding appropriate standards for that type of artwork.
In all honesty, as a major yuri artist myself, I find it rather difficult to properly depict emotion in artistic sexuality between two girls.
I mean, things like kissing and hugging aren't hard. It's actual sex where it starts to get complicated.
Also how did ya get to be a mod? o3o
Just curious, and btw KUDOS! We need more mods around here. xD
(I'd be one...but not for pending pics, more like hunting down art theives and telling them to pick up a pencil etc lol. And it would help even more if I wasent soo dang lazy lolz. )
I just took the initiative and asked site staff, specifically luckylace222, about any way I can possibly help with the site. I mean, the FaC community is like my family, and I haven't done much, so I felt it was time for me to give back.
It was mainly an issue of open positions and whether or not the staff as a whole needed help with any of their responsibilities.
Since I'm just a new guy I'm probably not the best person to ask, haha. ^_^; _________________

As for the art question; Aikiax (Sp?) she's the best at depicting romantic scenes with great emotion. Sniff around her gallery, youll love what ya find trust me. xP
And ah yes, that does explain how ya got to be mod. I'd volunteer myself to help, but as I said, just too lazy and or busy most of the time. So adding mod atop my list would just kill me really. xD

I'll have to check her gallery out then when I get the chance. Right now, I'm actually in my family's middle-of-nowhere cabin. My only connection with the Internet is through my phone...and you know how looking at artwork on a phone is ridiculously slow.
I'm actually impressed that I can even access the forums. _________________

Just to add my two cents on the sensuality vs pornography i always liked the way it was written in a book i used to have. it was a collection of erotic art. in the preface the author talks about what was the difference between erotic art and porn. the main thing he said that separated them was that porn was simply to titillate, in that it just simply showed every thing. for erotic art it was more about hinting at things(the arch of her back, the way clothing falls across her body, her smile, they way the light hits her) so when i do pictures that have nudity i try to keep that in mind.
so for me i look at it like porn simply shows things with the intent to titillate while erotic art is more about hinting at possibilities. _________________

Hah! I was doing that before I was a site helper! _________________ “Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checked by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” ~Theodore Roosevelt |

Go ahead! xD You've seen my work, I'm definitely not afraid of nudity and I'm sure the majority of FaC users wouldn't mind either. xD _________________

I can agree with that claim. Sturgeon's Law applies to adult content just the same as everything else -- most of it is just an excuse to depict reproductive anatomy. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I'd agree. Usually in terms of erotic or sensual art, it doesn't necessarily need to show any part of the body at all.
For me, I do that a lot (show parts of the body), but in my artwork I try to focus more on the emotion rather than the experience.
Take my two OCs Halle and Hanna for example, whenever I draw them together, I try to focus on their relationship and affection for each other. Though I admit, I'm still having trouble doing that. _________________

Ah yes, implied pics are my fav as well. Very much emotion in em. Plus it amuses me greatly to hear the angered cries of viewers yelling "MOVE DA OBSTACLE!" xD
Cant begin to tell you how many fans yelled "Move the feather!" on my one Sephiroth pic hehe.
Though I too get frustrated at the same time when viewing other fanarts of the same nature. Hell there is even a real life statue of epic artwork that is a perfect example of this. Said statue being of Sephiroth in the square enix HQ in Tokyo where he's in the lifestream cocoon thing, and a wing is wrapped around his waist; and the black materia is also helping to block out the goods. Very tasteful and it makes him all the more irrisistable..but for some reason it frustrates me and many other fangirls at the same time..kinda a love hate censorship ya know? xD
Long story short, teasing is fun and sexah. =3 _________________ Our life is made by the death of others...

In a site such as this, I don't really like to see it just for the sake of displaying it...
If it's part of a storyline...Mainly, the nudity aspect at least (such as a warrior man or woman in a battle scene, for example), I figure the final decision would still be left up to the moderator...
There are adult-oriented sites that allow it, however... |

When I saw "nudity and sexuality" in the title, I assumed they were going to be discussed as separate issues. Seems there was an applied "in" written over the "and"?
Thing is, for me nudity is in a Venn diagram circle which has a very large range outside the overlap with "sexuality." It can also be medical, power (look at those muscles!), innocence (nothing to hide)... and I'm... probably in the minority because I'm not really an erotic art person. I'm hesitant to experiment with nudity, because so many of the people who look in my sketchpad would automatically try to read it that way (especially religious friends). |

In my observations, pornography very often goes hand in hand with such warped anatomy and positions that unrealistically show off the genitalia, along with bodily fluids and/or penetration, whereas in reality said position would be horrendously uncomfortable or even impossible. From an artistic standpoint, I tend to hate pornography for that reason. In actuality, when a couple makes love, an observer WOULDN'T be able to see a whole lot, in most cases, because of arms and legs and bodies would be in the way.
The other thing that most pornography lacks is any sort of real emotion in the picture. Not only in the characters' faces, but in the art itself. I can tell the difference when an artist puts their heart into a piece of work, and when it's there simply to "look good" or be a turn on. I often find porn disgusting to look at, the angles, expressions, and unrealistic excess of fluids to be distasteful and really, pretty gross. A lot of it's based on personal opinion, of course, but I guess that's the point of this thread.
As for nudity itself, I don't have any problem with full on nudity in any artwork; I find the human body graceful and beautiful in all of its forms, and as an artist studying anatomy, seeing either a male or female figure naked doesn't really make me blink one way or the other. What I dislike is when the nudity involves spread legs and overly exposed genitals, or the classic "woman with gigantic, gravity-defying boobs." There's a big difference between artistic nudes and pornographic nudes. I don't need to look through up cartoon's cootch or see an unrealistically huge, veiny cock. There are plenty of places online to look for porn. I don't think it belongs on a decent art site. |
