Fanfiction Improvments

I just finished some major improvements to the site's fanfiction support:

New stories are now uploaded instead of typed (like the newer chapter submission system).

Chapter editing also uses the upload system.

Story editing is now supported. This means you can finally change such things as title, description, and ratings. It also lists chapters in the story allowing you to edit or delete them from a more covenant place.

Story listing under user pages now lists chapters in the story for more easy access. though the formatting could still use some improvements, the same can be said of much formatting of info on this site in general.

Enjoy the much needed, far over due, feature improvements.

I'm still there is much more that can be improved, but this is it for this round. You can report any bugs from the improvements here.

Doesn't have to be word, any wordprocessor or text editor will do. I do suggest somthing with a spell checker like word tho.

I can see you've been busy but it doesn't work for me it won't upload my story i just get a blank page and i wanted to edit it but i got the new way of editing not to be rude or anything but i don't like the new way Sorry Sad

well i've been having problems with the new chapter adding thing. i've been trying to add a chapter to my story and when i do the writting's not there....i save it as a RTF all the time and it wont go in there.....i know i've complained about this but.....i cant help it....its been annoying me....in my opinion the old way was a lot better. but hey watever works for u is fine......several of my friends save their stories as a RTF and they cant add chapters either. plx fix this fast! peoples wanna see how my stories end! Sad

Have you tried learning HTML? HTML formatted documents upload just fine. HTML isn't that difficult to write, all you need is a plain-text editor and a few markup tags throughout the document.

Like the rule against lined paper, the file upload system is in place as a subliminal (if futile Rolling eyes

) reminder for authors to submit their best writings, not just five-second things they scribble down from their imagination....

On Word's Save As dialog box, tell Word to save the document using HTML Format. That should fix most of your problems.

Personally though, I don't trust Word as far as I can throw the Office CD pack Razz

The blue part is an excerpt from my story (HTML format) which at first glance makes the message postively hilarious.

What's up, does the upload feature [i]not[/i] like apostrophes or something? (That's the first apostrophe in the chapter, I can't dismiss it as coincidence) Aaaahhhh!

On another note, denis, when I'm uploading an HTML file, standard line breaks (cr/lf) need to be ignored, because they're spacing my paragraphs out waaay too much.

yes, it doesn't like apostrophes becayse it uses single quotes internally and appearnetly they are not being properly escaped. I'll fix it.

As for the html thing, if you are getting line breaks converted to
's then the site is identifying your story as mime type text/plain instead of text/html. I'll need more info to investigate why. What filename extention are you using? Are you making it a full html doc (use of tag)? what browser are you using?

Note to self: Add tags to start of HTML files, it [i]did[/i] make a difference around here :lol:

It must be because I'm used to FF.net's system, which doesn't specifically require tags for HTML uploads.

On another note, it seems some of the escape sequences are popping up (visibly) in the uploaded copy.... example
