My, you've got questions today. Let's see... MS Paint's default format would be the Windows Bitmap aka .bmp .
BMP's are Windows's native image format because they're non-compressed image data, which allows Windows to load them very fast. Unfortunately, since they're not compressed, their filesizes are HUGE, second only to proprietary formats like the Photoshop psd.
That's why we don't support bmp's here on FAC; because they're not compressed, and they take forever to load compared to the more Internet-ready formats like GIF, JPG, and PNG.
To estimate the size of a BMP file, just multiply its two dimensions together and then multiply that by the color depth. A true-color BMP image will require 3 bytes for every pixel in the image. Take a modest sized bitmap like 400x300 -- a total of 120,000 pixels, multiply this by the bit depth -- it'll require 350kb!
A larger true-color BMP, like 640x480, requires 307,200 pixels, which translates to 900kb!
Don't even think about trying images larger than that, because they'll weigh in at over a megabyte apiece.
Under MS Paint's "Save As..." command, look at the File Type box and see if it supports JPG and GIF formats (most recent MS Paint versions do), and select one of those. Start with GIF. The JPG's compression scheme works well for exporting photos or digital art, but is pretty horrid at lineart and Paint drawings.
If you don't have that, grab yourself a quick image conversion utility like LView Pro or something. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
