A Simple Question.

Hey, I'm pretty new here. my friend made me an account and started me off so I have no clue what to do. I was just wondering if some one could help me with a problem. I can't start r.p.g.'s with out screwing some thing up so could some one tell me what to do?

As easy questions go, that one's a doozie... you basically want somebody to show you around and say what each place is for?

Our forums are divided into the following sections:

[b]Site Related[/b]. The first group of forums listed, these are things pertaining to the FAC site itself. First in this section is the "Announcements" forum. Moderators or the admin (cstdenis) occasionally make announcements there which concern all members as a whole. That's also the place to find the official forum rules (they're pinned). Although only mods and admin can make topics there, feel free to comment and reply to them if you need to.

Second is the "Site Discussion" forum. This is the place to hold general discussions about the FAC site itself, like new feature requests, artist-of-the-month nominations, and so on.

Third is the "Test" forum. If you want to experiment with your posting capabilities, avvies or signatures, go here.

Fourth in the section is the "Help" forum, which you're in right now. FAC's official FAQ is pinned at the top of this area.

Okay, moving on to the next area: [b]Art Discussion[/b], which has three sections to it.

The first section is "General", better known as "General Art Discussion". This is a place to talk about art in general -- genres, styles, media, etc. Popular threads here include "Rate the picture above yours" and "Works In Progress". There is also a subsection here called "Self-Promotion". If you want to advertise yourself or one of your pictures and let come what may, go there.

The second is "Technical". This is for discussing the technical aspects of art, like shading techniques, how to get the most out of a particular medium, so on.

Thirdly is "Art Help". If you're having any kind of trouble with your art -- say you can't draw very well and want advice -- go there. There are two subsections in "Art Help", one is the 'Critique Panel' where you can submit a drawing and experienced members will tear it apart to point out your strengths and weaknesses, the other is "Tips/Tutorials" which is the place to go if you've [i]made[/i] an art tutorial and want to share it with others.


The third major area of the FAC forums is [b]General[/b] and has many subsections:

- General Discussion. Place to talk about pretty much anything that doesn't have its own section already. The official "Newbie Thread" is pinned at the top of that list, and it has a subforum called "Forum Games" where members think up and play group-based games like "Rate the Avatar above yours", "Finish this Sentence", etc.
- Anime/Manga Discussion. General discussion for all things anime or manga. There's also a subsection for more serious discussion about anime/manga.
- Unmoderated. One of the dark alleys of FAC that you don't want your kids wandering into, where R- and NC-17 rated discussions are allowed to take place.
- Game Discussion. Place to talk about computer and console games.
- Music. Place to talk about real-life singers, bands, and music.
- Books. Place to talk about books, famous writers, etc.
- TV & Movies. Place to talk about TV shows, movies, actors, Oscars, Western cartoons, so on.
- Spam. Nothing is off-topic in the Spam section, it's a place to put all the silly, pointless, or just plain don't-belong-anywhere-else type threads. It's not un-moderated, but some threads may have offensive content so tread with care.
- Computers. Place to talk about computer related stuff. Processor speeds, AMD vs. Intel, PC vs. Mac, so on.

Finally there's the fourth major area of the FAC forums, [b]Miscellaneous[/b]. It has four sections of its own:
- Requests/Commissions. If you've got a really cool idea for a drawing that you'd like to see, but can't draw out yourself, post it here for other artists who might be interested in doing it. It's also a good place to get ideas if you need something to draw; just check out the existing threads.
- Contests. Everything regarding FAC art contests takes place here. Around here, contests are held for FAC members, by FAC members. There are several subforums in this area for things like contest polls and "real prize" contests, and there's a guide to creating an FAC contest pinned at the top.
- Fanfiction discussion. For discussing the genre of fanfiction. Plots, clichs, themes, Mary-Sues, so on. There is also a subforum for our [i]Fanfiction[/i] Critique Panel, where you can submit a story for a thorough review (which may take some time).
- Roleplaying. You know about that place already, right? There are two threads pinned at the top discussing RP etiquette, but as of yet there's no "how-to" guide describing the steps for setting up and running a 'good' RP.

This concludes your quick tour of the FAC forums.
