How Can you get a realistic tone on photoshop? I try all day long and only get a cartoonish look, I mean it's an ok tone, but not what I'm going for. I have a few realistic pictures that need color, but I can't color them unless I fet that realistic tone. Can someone help me, please? I really need tips, tutorials, or something, please help. It would be much appreciated. |

I've found that the best way to get a good tone is to find a picture you like online, copy it, and sample the color with your eyedropper tool.
One way to avoid the cartoonish look is to adjust your strength setting (how "heavy" the color is) you can do this on the top toolbar (its in a little box that usually says "100%"). Usually this is all it takes. You can adjust it to a really low strength, say, 25%, then keep layering the color untill you find one that you like. When you do, sample that color and set your strength back to 100% to use the color on other parts of the drawing.
Also, I've found that when I use my color picker, I tend to choose colors that are to dark or to pink, while they look good in that little square they look horrible on the actual drawing, so I usually pick a shade that is about 25% lighter than I think it should be (moving the color picker toward the white part of your choices), and this works well.
I'm a total sample fiend. My friends always end up laughing at me because when I'm doing a piece, I usually end up googling something totally random (for instance, for one of my characters skin tones, I sampled from a cappuccino, then lightened the color a bit, its still what I use for his skin).
I use photoshop all the time, I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you have about it.
I have a few photoshop tutorials on my deviant art account, and I'll probably make more as I think of things that people need basic help with. |
