Behind the Music Gn'R is on again tonight (sneak preview yesterday afternoon). It's on again at 12:30 (I think) and 8 billion times in the next month on VH1. Check it out.

It's extremely half assed and should have at least been a two hour Aerosmith-type deal. How many crappy pieces of junk can they throw out with the Gn'R name attached to it? Axl (no surprise), Duff, and Izzy didn't want to be interviewed for it, so it's basically Slash and Matt as far as band members go. They barely talk about Izzy except for his quitting, which is slightly odd, since he was one of the main songwriters. Tracii Guns says they interviewed him but not only cut out his story, they cut out any mention of him except for in the "special thanks" credits. Way to go, VH1. <_<

But they do show some good old interview footage of Axl and live stuff. Probably better than seeing the braids. Razz But it's so all over the place and skims over huge portions of the story. They focus way too much on the drugs and booze and barely on the actual music or even band members. Ok, yes, they were wasted...we get it! Looks like it was thrown together as quick Velvet Revolver promotion. Says Chinese Democracy is scheduled for November, but they say that every year.

Axl is, of course, portrayed as the evil genius responsible for their success and destruction. A bit one sided, but he is fuckin' nuts and a control freak, so it's alright. Check it out if you're interested. The unauthorized biography DVD "Sex n' Drugs n' Rock n' Roll" has a lot of left out details, as does any of the numerous books written about them. None even come close to what a good BTM could have been, with participation from Duff and Izzy and (in an alterate universe) Axl in two hours with more details about the band's origin, members, and songs. Sad Better than nothin', I guess, and no surprise with Velvet Revolver out. And they're a great band, so much luck to Duff, Slash, and Matt.

You've got a million chances to catch it. If nothing else it's an interesting collection of old Axl interview footage. A lot of talking packed into an hour, including his interview after that horrid VMA performance. He'd have actually looked decent without those braids. This is getting long and rambling. I'll shut up now.

Haha, apparently I've inspired you to check the music forum.

It's not that great. Except seein' Axl back when he was sportin' his real hair and a lot of clips of him talking, that most other shows lack. But other than that it kinda sucks (no surprise). Same story, no real additions. Except a story about Slash I hadn't heard before, but that was it. . . . .

Nice to see Steven's doing better; he only slurs a bit. Understandable. All his parts are really sad, though.

Would've been at least a little bit better with Duff and Izzy. No one was expecting Axl to play along, but only having Slash, Matt, Gilby, and Steven (for the most part) kinda sucked. They could've at least kept Tracii in, but I suppose since they cut out ANY MENTION of him, it wouldn't have made sense. <_<

Mmhm, some people are speculating they threw this together for Velvet Revolver promotion, then when Chinese Democracy is released in November (riiiiight) they'll do a "longer, improved" version and bring out the "really good stuff". Unlikely, and even if they did make it longer it would still lack Axl, Duff, and Izzy. Especially Duff and Izzy, since if they didn't want to participate in this, they sure wouldn't want to participate in a show that's promotion for Rose n' Roses.

People should just give it up. There's enough books and webpages out there that everyone and their dog knows the story. The only way to make it better would be all members participating and really getting into the down n' dirty details. And unfortunately, unlike The Crue, Gn'R is too dysfunctional to even do that. VH1 generally does a great job. Aerosmith, Poison, Motley Crue... all really good episodes but only because all band members were willing to participate.
