Your biggest pet peeves in music. Either things in songs, bands in general, fans, whatever....

~ Excessive cow bell. There was an SNL skit on this, I know, but it's so true. A little is fine in a song every now and then, but sometimes it's just distracting.

~ People buying vintage shirts of groups they don't even like. Discussed this before.

~ Reissued albums with very little to make you want to buy them. Hardly any (or no) bonus material, same packaging... Same for box sets that only include the albums with nothing extra. Woohoo, $100 for albums I already own and a nice box. Cool. Good for people who want to buy everying all at once, I guess, but bonus stuff is great.

~ Bands who reinvent themselves to stay current and deny their past that isn't cool anymore. (*cough*Bon Jovi*cough*)

~ People who get way too obsessed with genres to the point they lose their mind about such petty issues as "OMFG!!! They are not metal! Dude, hair metal is not metal! Motley Crue is not metal, dude, come on! Slayer is metal!" There's more than one kind of metal, ya dumbass, deal with it. It doesn't fuckin' matter..

~ People who think a stage show is just there to make up for lack of musical talent. A stage show is fun. It gives you something to watch. I'd much rather see Gene Simmons spit blood than a super serious tight-ass trying to look "intense" for an hour.

~ People who don't understand how being influenced works. You may have been more influenced by more current acts than stuff from the 60s and 70s, but who influenced them? S'what I thought.

~ People who act like an insult on their favorite band is a personal insult to them. Unless you're their new member, calm the hell down. You don't know them, you're not part of the band, it has nothing to do with you.

~ Music snobs. The ones who act like they know everything about music and get off on trying to make others look stupid so they can look even better (in their own minds). Get off your high horse. No one thinks you're the shit. If anything you look like a self-absorbed jackass.

~ People who can't admit when something is true about a group. I love Poison, but I won't try to talk like they're the most talented people on earth. They're mediocre at best. People just look stupid when they act like their favorite group is the best of all time.

~ Petty arguments like "omg he totally stole that clothing style from _____" Who the hell cares if a guy cuts his hair the same way as another one? Didn't know artists had a copyright on their personal look, as well. If he wants to look like someone he admires, good for him. Pay more attention to what he's singing, not the bandana on his head. (obviously does not apply to stolen riffs, etc.)

~ Lame cover art. Probably because bad graphic design pains me in anything, but it's especially bad on album covers. The Spaghetti Incident is a great example. Ugly cover. Just horrible. Fitting with the title? yes. Attractive and makes people want to buy the record? No.

~ Tiny booklets. Two panels of thanks. Woohoo.

~ "_____ vs _______" threads in excess. I don't need to see every drummer on earth compared with ever other. If you want to make one thread discussing two relatively equally matched ones, fine, but I don't want to see 10 threads about them. No one cares.

There's more, but I'll leave some for someone else. Razz

I know a lot of those were directed at me. Wink

-People who obsess over the band or artsit so much, they begin to hyperventolate moment the band/artist appear onstage.
-People who end up bashing a band without knowing that the person they admire the most was in it, nor can they name an actual song written by them.
-The shirt issue.
-Fender Relics. I say let you bash them up on your own. You want a Strat that looks just like Yngwie Malmsteen's, you play your heart out.
-Punk posers.
-People who are in love with punk posers.
-Anyone who thinks that a "one hit wonder" is an insult. I'd kill for one.
-The prices for Gibson Les Pauls. Grr!
-Drummers who can't keep themselves from getting a cell phone that costs $480 instead of waiting to use a phone their parents pay the bills on.
-Really sh*tty stage shows(Rob Zombie)
-Christain Rock
-Censorship
-People who love Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears Between the Legs, Christina Aguilaria, Hilary Duff, and anyone else who has no musical talent and claim they are the best singers in the whole wide world.
-When Zack de la Rocha left Rage Against the Machine. That pissed me off. Grr!
-Anyone who thinks Courtney Love is a decent responsible person.
-Anyone who thinks Kurt Cobain is still alive and whines about how Nirvana isn't putting out anymore albums(a new unreleased album should be coming out soon, but Courtney is begging for it not to be. Kurt probably wrote "My wife wants me dead/Gunshot to the head")
-Bubblegum pop.
-Guitarists that can shred the Hell out of a Les Paul, but can't do a thing with an acoustic.

There will be more. Cool

Nah, only one was "directed" at a specific person, and I'm sure it went over their head. Pity. Razz

[note from Fallen: Maaaaaybe Wink ]

-Cover bands who suck(e.g: Dave Matthews Cover Band)

I'll have more. I've been playing N64 a lot though. Not that I don't spend most of my time on these forums. I'm on here an average of about 10 hours a day.

Hope I get picked for Approval Panel. But anyways:

-bands that write depressing lyrics in an almost goth like attitude then saying in an interveiw that they're the luckiest people in thw world.
-Eric Clapton for auctioning off the original Blackie Stratocaster he made famous.
-The new Fender Basses that have lost the headstock. The have a new guitar, the Cyclone, but that looks pretty good.
-Any band that uses the word Jesus 5 times when it's not in vain.
-Limp Bizkit for starting a riot at Woodstock '99 instead of RATM
-RATM for not starting a full blown riot at Woodstock '99.

~ Band members (usually former members) who like making decisions just to spite each other. Like when it comes to unreleased material, bonus stuff, new releases, etc., when agreement from everyone is needed, and one will say "no" every damn time. There's so much cool shit out there from tons of bands that people will never see because some people won't let it go. (Axl, Guns, I'm looking in your direction...)

~ People who are way too devoted to original lineups of groups to the point they insult replacements for no reason. I'm gettin' real tired of people ranting about "fake KISS". You don't like it, don't go. Most of us really don't care what you think.

~ When someone "borrows" your CD and scratches it. My Samantha 7 disc still has a scratch in the "Cover Girl" solo from when my brother stole it and I found it lying on his bed. Bastard. You steal and damage my C.C. and I will kill you. I also no longer genuinely lend albums to him because he takes them to "show" a friend, and that friend always copies them. Sorry, I'm not the local record store. That little fucker decides he likes the record, he can go buy it with his money, not mine.

~ Drunk girls who think they're the only ones in the entire venue. You're in heels, you don't need to wobble back and forth while standing on your seat, and you're in the 4th fuckin' row. You can see. You've flashed the cameras and whored it up with the road crew enough that you're gonna get a pass, honey, you don't need to block the view of people in the ten rows behind you. You're not the hottest thing there, you smell like cheap Bud Light, and you come off as someone with no self respect. What a catch. Now get your ass down.

~ Artists who spit into the crowd. Yeah, it kinda seems cool (kinda)...until it's you that gets spit on.

Um, have this ever happened to you fallen? Sad

and yeah, the CD thing would seriously piss me off. I don't buy cd's anymore, i rarely did when i was younger, but i never leant them out for that reason. My friend Sam, has a HUGE collection of cds, a lot of stuff i just love, but he refused all year to let me borrow any of them unless he was standing over me because so many people have given them back scratched, broken, or even lost. Sad

I finally convinced him to, and you know what, i returned 6 of them the next day, perfect condition, but i forgot one at the house my accident, lmao! i still have it here. He told me to just keep it for the summer though as a thank you for returing the others the very next day, first thing in the morning, in perfect condition. lol. And all i did was put them in my laptop and had it uploaded into my iTunes so i had the songs to listen to, and i knew they were all there, no screwed up downloads, perfect quality, and i know the soundtrack name, song title, and everything. lol.

And when i see him next year in class with his bag full of cd's he brings with him, i get to pick more out and take them home ^_^ lol. I've seen him a few times this summer but of course he does have that backpack with him all the cds, lol. Until school starts Rolling eyes

hmm i wonder who one of your comments was directed to... and which comment...

well some of mine were already listed. but i hate:

-whiny lyrics (sometimes i can stand it, but some bands just push it)
-when a singer's voice changes (not like puberty, but for example saves the day's chris conley had an awesome voice, but it's more refined and less interesting on the new album. voice lessons, i guess)
-when bands change their music style so that they suck (meh i've talked about this one before. examples: less than jake, saves the day)
-the stuff fallen mentioned about cover art and design for cd booklets. i mean, i'll still listen to the cd, obviously, but it's really disappointing when there's just a two-page booklet with bad/boring cover art and no lyrics or pictures
-bands who think they're "punk" but cannot comprehend the meaning of the word
-several flea mentioned (especially that last one):
-Christain Rock
-Censorship
-People who love Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears Between the Legs, Christina Aguilaria, Hilary Duff, and anyone else who has no musical talent and claim they are the best singers in the whole wide world.
-Anyone who thinks Courtney Love is a decent responsible person.
-and of course, when my laptop breaks down and a good deal of my marvelous music is lost because a lot came from other people and i was too much of an idiot to back it up (serves me right, i guess. i just wish i could put the new cds i got on my ipod. but it's ok)

Just a bit of Paul Stanley's water he spit into the crowd. Bleh. Was more annoyed by the drunk asshole that poured half a glass of cheap Budweiser over my head. Nikki Sixx and various others have a horrid habit of genuinely spitting on people. Better than having a bass thrown at you, I guess. Razz Could be worse, a chick was peed on by a guy in the crowd at a Metal Shop show last week (he pissed on the floor and it splashed onto her feet).

~ artists that take themselves too seriously. Look, if you were in a funny band or you do stupid shit all the time, don't be offended when people make fun of you for it. You look a lot cooler if you can go with it than ranting and raving about how unfair it is.

~ Cock blocking. And those who bitch about it. (note: cock blocking is where the headliner keeps girls away from the opening bands) Yeah, it's stupid, but it's nothin' new and not going anywhere.

~ Current music magazines. They all suck.

I do have to thank Metal Edge for becoming so pathetic it inspired Metal Sludge... But seriously, it's sunk to a new low. The editor's column? Oh god... There were pictures of his gay ass little lap dog in a santa hat one month. Very metal. The amount of mistakes and typos and errors is so pathetic it's sad.

wow that is indeed sad. the only magazine i'm really into is entertainment weekly (but not for the music section). i do get rollingstone, since there are some good pictures and stuff. my friends read ap (alternative press) since it talks about some underground punk bands and stuff, but there really aren't many good music magazines out there... lol if i read metal edge i'd probably rip it up just for the typos/grammatical errors. haaaate it...

Yeah, I've just got old issues from the 80s n' early 90s that people sell whole boxes of for a nickel at garage sales.

Anyone who uses Disney to get a recording contract for that matter.

People who meet an artist once and try to use it to reflect the entire person. Like if someone meets so-and-so on a bad day, they go around saying that person's a dick. I'm sure you're not all rainbows and sunshine everyday yourself. Or someone says "man, ___ was such an asshole to me" and four other people jump in with "no he's not! He was soooo sweet."

Look, you met him once. Or twice. Or a few times. Unless you are close friends and spend a lot of personal time together, all your opinion means is "he was ____ at this one time". You can't defend that person as an overall great or bad guy. Yeah, if someone's saying he's a jerk, you can say he isn't always because he was nice to you, but you can't try to argue that he's a great guy just because he was nice once, no more than you can argue that he's an asshole because he was moody once.

Those arguments drive me crazy. Share stories all you want, it's cool to hear, but the "he's mean" "no he isn't!" "yes he is" "he was sweet to me!" "well he told me to go screw myself!" are tedious.

Only famous people I've met were nice, if not a little tired. And any friends I know of who have also met them I was with at the time. So we can't really argue amongst ourselves.

It's mostly on forums that the "who's an asshole" or "who's the nicest" threads get to 30+ pages of

"well I met him last year and he was so nice. He took a picture n' signed my shirt"
"so? He was a dick last month. He gave my friend the finger just 'cause she wasn't a skinny blonde"
"maybe it was just a bad night."
"no, I heard from other people he treated them the same way, blah blah blah"

Who. Cares.

I generally keep my mouth shut 'cause the girls (it's usually chicks) are great and mean well. And a lot of them are friends with various rock guys and can defend them as not being as bad as they come off. But so many hang out with a dude for one evening or meet up with them once or twice and insist that they're so nice/an asshole/whatever. Ugh. Hearing about so-and-so being a jerk is interesting. Do tell. I just don't like the argument that follows.
