I could tell you what I think, but it's pretty damn bad. It would be harsh.... _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

I think it was Nikki Sixx who wrote in RollingStone a very colorful description of one of REM's albums. Either Nikki or another member of Motley Crue, I can't remember. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

It was probably Nikki. He's talked shit about everyone from Poison to Hendrix to the Stones to Morrison... He contradicts himself all the time, but at least he's entertaining to listen to. I prefer his slight bandwagon jumping than artists that sit around "well ya know, they do their thing. I think that's great."

Forgive me BladeMaster, but I must post this one for reference. The honorable Nikki Sixx has a say here.....
"REM? Are they still around? God, I hate the mother****ers. Learn to play bi**hes. When are they gonna f***in go to Hell?"
Whoa, man..... _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

Oh that's nothing. Nikki has balls, that's for sure. Here's some more choice times Nikki has switched his opinion according to the times (Nikki tends to type with the caps lock on. Guess he thinks it's cool to shout everything? Im JuSt W8iNg 4 hIm 2 TiPe LyKe DiS )
Sorry to jack the REM topic! I'll stop after this.
"I like Poison. I think they're cool." - Nikki Sixx, Motley Crue Magazine (a Metal Edge Special), Spring 1987
"All of a sudden they come back with KISS, the BRIDES and POISON! There ain't no way in hell I'm doing that tour. I will not play with f**king POISON. There are followers and leaders. I'm not into followers." - Nikki Sixx, The Stamford Advocate, May 6, 2004 (NOTE: He said that on my birthday, awww)
"NO WAY IN f**king HELL WOULD WE ((BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION OR MOTLEY CRUE) EVER, EVER TOUR WITH A f**king BAND LIKE POISON...WE HAVE HAD TALKS WITH KISS AND I TOLD THEM VERY CLEARLY THAT WE WOULD NOT DO THE TOUR IF THEY USED POISON.THAT WOULD BE THE DEATH OF US...I WILL NOT BE ATTACHED TO THAT KIND OF FAKE BULLSHIT..." - Nikki Sixx on touring with Poison and Kiss, Brides Of Destruction message board, 2/27/04
"We're not big fans of live stuff. It doesn't stand up sound-wise. I don't dig it. We'll never put out a live album. We hate 'em." - Nikki Sixx, Metal Edge, September 1990, about 9 years before Motley puts out their 1st live album.
"DAVE HAS A WAY OF DISTORTING THINGS TO MAKE HIMSELF SEEM SO WISE AND ON TOP OF IT. TO BE HONEST IF HE WAS SO ON TOP OF IT WHY WAS HIS BAND ONLY DRAWING 500 PEOPLE A NIGHT ON THE MAX TOUR?? WE WERE THE HEADLINERS, SO WHY WOULD WE SEND HOME PRODUCTION SO WE COULD CHEAT OUR FANS OUT OF A LESS THAN OVER THE TOP SHOW?? ANTHRAX WASNT CUT IN PAY,THEY WERE CUT FROM THE TOUR...BETWEEN THEM AND MEGADETH THEY WERNT DRAWING FLIES((EXCEPT WHEN DAVE OPENED HIS MOUTH AND TRIED TO BE WITTY WITH HIS ONSTAGE BANTER). I HAVE MUCH RESPECT FOR ALL THE GUYS, BUT DAVE DOESN'T WANT TO FACE THE FACT THAT IS WASN'T THEIR SHOW. I WAS THE ONE WHO FOUGHT FOR BOTH BANDS ON THE TOUR. I WAS TOLD FROM THE GET GO THE PACKAGE WASN'T AS STRONG AS THE HEADLINER....ALSO, DAVE DIDN'T SEEM SO EAGER TO SEND THE BACKGROUND SINGERS HOME WHEN HE WAS TRYING TO f**k THEM THOUGH, DID HE??" - Nikki Sixx on Dave Mustaine, Metal Sludge 3-Wind 10/8/01
"Kevin DuBrow has a big mouth! He's a spoiled little brat who's losing his hair and he got a little too confident and started badmouthing a lot of very important people in this business. The little prick doesn't have a clue. If I had the chance I'd knock his teeth out." - Nikki Sixx, Rock Fever, February 1985
"I don't understand U2's music. It's too serious. They bum me out." - Nikki Sixx, Rolling Stone, August 13, 1987
"I think the Doors suck. The Doors blew! I went out and got the Jim Morrison lyric book and threw it in the trash! It's garbage! The guy couldn't write to save his ass!" - Nikki Sixx, Rip Magazine, December 1991
"To me, Metallica is a sh*tty band. I mean I f**king hate Metallica. I think their music is crap. It's just garbage, and they won't be here in a few years. And I don't care if I get hassled for that. There is nothing in that music, lyrically, musically, rhythmically. I mean what's their f**king purpose? To me that's crap and I don't mind if I get s**t for that." - Nikki Sixx, Creem Metal, April 1990
"I still think Metallica have turned into a bunch of f**king corporate pigs. You sold out to your record company and lawyers with this lawsuit. In fact, you sold out years ago. Suck my dick." - Nikki Sixx in his Rock N Roll Diary on Motley.Com, May 10, 2000
"Dear, Sweet, Fat, Balding, Larz (love the make-up babe!) Taking your ever moronic soapbox position on a subject that's NONE of your f**king business has made you out to be an asshole as usual. Considering that me and Tommy know that your live tapes have been re-recorded. And ALL your instruments were repaired in Pro Tools (and had that balls to lie to your fans an call it a 'live' album)...People in glass houses should NOT throw rocks!! considering your bullshit to the press, we feel its only fair to return the punch!!...Your such a poseur...Thanks for releasing that 'load' of s**t CD of yours...you made more room for us!!" - Nikki Sixx & Tommy Lee on AOL, regarding Lars Ulrich's allegations that Motley performed to a tape at the American Music Awards in January of 97.
"Winning is my main prerogative now. I don't want to become (Motorhead frontman) Lemmy and be an overweight, wrinkled alcoholic. I'll still cut your throat, but now I need a reason besides you looking at me wrong." - Nikki Sixx, Express News, San Antonio, TX., March 4, 1999
"...But I was never interested. I used to tell Mick that I wouldn't f**k her with his dick. She just seemed weird and misshappen, like someone had beat her face in with an ugly stick, albeit a very expensive ugly stick. Who she reminded me of, actually, was some of the chicks Vince fucked. And, come to thing of it, she was one of the chicks Vince fucked." - Nikki Sixx on Pamela Anderson, The Dirt , 2001
Fun, no? But that's one of the reasons I love Nikki. He may be a control freak that insults anyone and everyone, but at the end of the day he's still one cool motherfucker. And the true measure of his coolness is that all the people he insults still think he's cool. Now back to REM, bitches

At the risk of making the topic starter angry(I'd do it anyways, you know I would):
I don't like R.E.M because for some reason they just don't have my preferred sound or image. They don't strike me as a good rock band because they, for some reason to me, sound way too mellow. I don't much like the guitarist, either. I mean, he plays Fender(which I love to play), but it doesn't have the strength.
And the lyrics.....
King of the Road? I doubt that...
They just don't strike me as a band with the necessary strength to be an "amazing" rock band. There are some good bands who aren't all heavy, like Dave Matthews, but R.E.M just isn't what I'd call "amazing".
Now I've kept my cool, I've watched my language, and I said this politely. I'm so proud of myself. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

I don't pay much attention to REM. They had a new song awhile ago, didn't they? The video was like a news report or...something. I do know Wham!, though. George Michael is cool.
(sidenote: I can't stand Dave Matthews. One of the most dull, plain, stand still and be boring performers ever. I think the only song I've heard of his that was remotely tolerable for any period of time was Grave Digger, and that was because I didn't have to watch him perform during any of it ) _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Dave is good, but his work with Tim Reynolds is awesome.
"Gravedigger" has that kind of sound you can draw to, for me at least. Not that hard rock and metal doesn't help my brain.
R.E.M did have one out, and Nikki wrote that in response.
But Dave is good, especially if you like acoustic work. The guy can play, and the rest of his band is pretty good as well.

I like REM. Their older stuff, as with most musicians, far surpasses their newer works. They're not rock, at least not the screaming, grunge wearing, hate everything kind of rock. _________________ "I've got a sticky Darodo!"

 You post in a public forum, you imply you want opinions on the subject. A random comment is better suited to a web journal if you're not looking for input.

R.E.M may rock, but it's not the rock I'd listen to. I'm not gonna say sorry, because, well, you wanted opinions and I gave you some, my own and Nikki Sixx's.
I've been really soft on R.E.M right now. I could get harsh, if needed. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.
