I Want a Famous Face - it's that MTV makeover show where people pick their favorite celebrity, a few certain features of said person, and get cosmetic surgery to look like them. Not only is it boring, pathetic watching people go under the knife to look more like Brad Pitt, it's stupid because what makes those celebrities attractive is all their features as a whole and not just "their nose and cheekbones". The people end up looking nothing like the celebrity and usually look worse than when they started.

Quintuplets- Not funny. It sucks. Andy Richter is usually funny, but he bombed this one. The actors and actresses are bad. The script is bad. I hope Family Guy helps me forget it.

American Idol - AKA "America's prettiest karaoke singer?" Music is not about a pretty voice. There are thousands of people who are just as good and better than anyone in the music industry. Things like American Idol just help people's idea that all it takes is a pretty face and mediocre talent to "make it", and where are they now? Does anyone really remember any of the winners? They're guaranteed a couple albums and some sales from the show, but they have no future whatsoever because they're a novelty. It's disgusting that choir boys can get a record deal (although it's a horrible deal, that label owns those brats) when genuine artists who write their own stuff are passed over because they're not pretty or immediately marketable.
What are you buying when you support those kids? Some anonymous songwriter, their competent voice, and an airbrushed face to make it easily digestable. They really are glorified karaoke singers. They have nothing to say! That's not to say every artist has to be the Axl Rose of meaningful lyrics, but if a singer is only good at singing...it's their responsibility to front a BAND that involves a good lyricist and make something of themselves the right way.
And perhaps it's just me, but everone on AI is horribly dull. They work it down to the final little group of clones. Different faces, same show. And it really doesn't matter who wins because either way you're guaranteed a crappy generic pop song, painfully cliche album and video, and a person no one remembers within 5 years. Yeah, it's a great show.
Hate it. It's beyond just "oh, I don't like that show". I hate it. Hate everything about it, hate everything about those involved with it, and wish whoever created it a slow and painful death. Go back to the karaoke bars you spoiled little mall rats who have no right to make a record. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I'm glad you think Ruben Studdard is "pretty." The show is all about making money, 'nuff said.

And notice who got all the publicity and better selling album. Cute little runner up. Even the guy who won has a very marketable image. You don't see ugly pop stars. Their image is their biggest "talent". But the little southern boy still got more because he fit the stereotype better.
Of course it's all about making money. Who would want a show to find deserving talented people? It'd be horrible! Ah man, but if you think watching bad singers is bad, just try watching people audition their original material.

*Ahem* Don't mind if I say... "DERRRRRRRR!" Why would someone want to market some pimple ridden, skin sagging, obese belly enveloping over their lowrise short shorts? You wouldn't really get a boner while watching this "beutiful babe" preform live onstage. Plus, how are people going to suck up to you? How do they say, "Well don't you look like a little ray of sunshine!" when they've got HoHo's sticking out of her skirt, all without sounding "sarcastic?"
Plus, I don't think "ugly" people are comfortable preforming on stage infront of hundreds of thousands of people at a time. That's why they're all usually shy. Which makes them good secretaries and anime animators J/k. |

Note the sentence after the one you quoted.
There have been some very dog ugly musicians in non-pop bands. If you saw Steven Tyler working in a bank, you'd think "Jesus Christ! ". It's the talent of him and the band that makes up for that. My point was it's what you say along with how you say it.
But I think we agree, so why do I feel like I'm arguing with you...

Ah, now I remember what I was gonna say. Of course the show's all about money. Most things are. It is, after all, the music industry. It's just that now there's a much larger focus on 15-minute meal tickets than on lasting influential artists. If they can get 20 drop in the bucket teen idols, that's easier and less risky than finding one KISS or one Black Sabbath. Which sucks, and there have always been stupid teen artists, but that doesn't mean we can't bitch about it. Especially when something as stupid as American Idol ends up on television pissing all over respectable artists.

That little "southern boy" came to this little southern boy's hometown of Charleston.
How dare he mess with my territory. I'll sue the bitch.

American Idol is really stupid and pointless and I hate it, but all my friends like it and one of them is obsessed with it. She even tried to drag me along to one of the AI's concerts. |

No, I don't find any of them attractive, but have you seen any of my posts in the Sexy Men thread? Unless you throw Phil Lewis or a young Axl Rose up there... but they wouldn't win because they don't have cliche pop star voices.
But just for kicks, let's take a look at some of the American Idol people...

Do I really need to comment about this one? Classic female pop star look.

Regardless of his elf-like qualities, Clay has a very..."cutesy" look and personality. You underestimate the preteen female population who loves the "aww" factor vs armani model Brad Pitt.
He may not fit the boyband stereotype, but even Reuben has a very marketable image. He isn't repulsive, rather average looking. Cash in on the "he's a real soul man..." look and there ya go. But Clay is cuter, so he got all the promotion.
Look at all the others. That Nikki chick was the cliche little punk rocker. It's all image; they're selling you a package and looking for the kids that fit that package best, will put up the least fight, and are easily digested by the preteen fanbase. It has nothing to do with talent, and anyone who truly believes it's a search for America's next "idol" is a fool. Simon is a genius for two reasons. He knows how to entertain and he knows what sells. He's in it to buy another expensive lap dance and take another stripper on vacation with him, not find a "super star".
If anything American Idol exposes how stupid and cheap the pop music industry is. Someone writes a crappy song, they find a pretty face, and there ya go. Hit single. How anyone can respect teen pop stars is beyond me. Like whatever you want, but you can't deny what it is. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
