Most of the time when I'm talking to someone about what kind of music from Japan they like, they name songs from animes.

So n.n for all you people out there that like Japanese music without a "it's from _______" then please! speak out!

I looooove Malice Mizer/Gackt (even though the music videos are just ....weird)
L'arc~En~Ciel/Hyde (Hyde's awesome)
Utada Hikaru (she's making a debut in the US soon -- she was my first favorite J-pop artist)
Mr. Children
The Brilliant Green
Core of Soul
HY (new band n.n awesome music)
Porno Graffitti (lol yeah I know)

lots more but @.@;; bah. These are just some my faves.

When are they from? (like...year) That's the name of an Extreme album, too. Never did like Extreme...

They first came out in late 1999 (their first ALBUM was in early 2000)

but they just released a new CD (well...2 to be exact o.o they did two different CDs that looked a little similar... I don't get it but we got the green (they call it "blue" for some reason T.T you look at that and tell me it's not green) one and it's good n.n lol)

http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Music/Info/porno/

we wanted to get the red one too but they're $30 each

Wow, that's just...a little scary lookin'. Surprised

Extreme's Pornograffiti came out in '90. Maybe they're just Extreme fans (why?!). Or maybe it's from where else n' that's where Extreme got the title, I dunno. Was just curious that I saw a name I knew. Razz

I love just about every J-Pop and J-Rock artist I've come across. To list a few:

Ayumi Hamasaki
Utada Hikaru
Miki Nakashima
Shiina Ringo
Gackt
Plastic Tree

I have to admit, I don't understand a word of what these artists are singing (except in the rare cases when the song is in English, as Utada Hikaru and Shiina Ringo sometimes do). For all I know, they could be singing: "These white people paying me to sing this song are all idiots." But I love the sound of the music. ^_^

ooh n.n
I like Shiina Ringo.

Ayu can kiss my butty T.T I like some of her music, but she's really.....annoying (and EVERYWHERE)
She's like the Britteny Spears/Christina Agulera/Madonna of Japan.

Up until she got that eye surgery a couple years ago (to make her eyes look bigger/American) she only annoyed me a little, now I can't STAND her

I like BoA... but I believe BoA has a song in InuYasha, but I liked BoA before that and I like a lot of BoA's music as well... I like they way BoA sounds...

I just don't like the Japanese pop stars that rely on their good looks to get a recording contract, like it's bubblegum Japanese pop and some of it annoys me.....

Utada Hikaru is talented as well. I also like Do As Infinity.....

BoA's awesome n.n
She's actually Korean, but apparently she's bigger in Japan (and she sings in Korean, Japanese, English, and Chinese)
and yeah, Every Heart was USED for Inu Yasha (most/all Inu Yasha songs were already out and the show USED them for the show -- almost none were actually written FOR the show)

Utada Hikaru is awesome n.n and Do As Infinity is one of my absolute favorites

Gotta love them! ^_^ Well, I heard about BoA from a Japanese music site, I knew she wasn't Japanese I just didn't what she was.... Not that it matters anyways. But that's awesome that she speaks all those languages!

The 5,6,7,8's......

They have good bass, guitar, and drums. But I will forever hate the way they sing. Particulary when trying to mimic American styles.

This might go for a lot, I don't know, but if they at least made the lyrics flow instead of chopping it up or overrunning verses.

But, hey, they're 3 girls with actual musical talent(excluding vocals). MOre power to 'em.

hmm don't listen to much J rock to be honest but L'arc en Ciel did the Fullmetal alchemist theme song ready steady go and I love that.

I do like Pierrot and Utada Hikaru though. Some of Malice Mizer is OK and that's about it. I do wanna get hold of more Pierrot though its so hard to find.

omg Namie Amuro is soooo good! If any of you have kazaa or a p2p client.. thing.. something or other.... try to find the mp3 that is the 7th inuyasha ending theme. She only does two Inuyasha themed songs, though. She has like at least 4 Jpop albums out and they're really awesome!! Some of the songs I personally like are "Come", "Love 2000" and "Body Feels EXIT".

P.S. She's the first Jpop music artist i've ever listened to, and she's still my favorite. If any of you think anyone is better than her, notify me O.O

I like quite a few of the more popular ones; L'Arc~En~Ciel, Dir En Grey, Malice Mizer, The Pillows, etc.

Mr.Children isn't too bad, and i absolutely LOVE Gackt's voice (Syunikiss, one of the few mp3s with Gackt singing i've been able to find, is an instant favorite of mine ^-^). I also recently discovered a band called Penicillin, and they're pretty good too.

I manage to find many j-rock bands and artists that aren't very well known in my constant search for mp3s...DOREMIdan, Kagrra, and Merry, just to name a few.

Iceman is still my favorite though, even though they don't seem to be very well known here. Iceman, The Seeker, Mad Soldiers...

and of course can't forget Yamaguchi Kappei. he may not be a j-rock artist, but Predilection is awesome <3

Well I enjoy:

BoA
Koda Kumi
move
SID
The pillows
Gackt
Morning Mitsume
