I know what you mean. Wow I love your art, can you draw me wearing this or that and with this person. I will do it every so often, but most of the time I ignore it. I recently got a comment on one of my pics.... "I dunno it's kind of weird, but the proportions and coloring are okay"... something to that effect.. What the hell does wierd mean? If you are going to say something is strange or funny or wierd please explain what you mean. What is wierd about it? rarg.
I also hate it when people comment on your stuff and expect the same thing in return. I will look at others art but if it doesn't appeal to me why should I comment? I have more trouble when it comes to this on Otaku.com. I've actually gotten bitched at by people because I don't add them as a friend or leave a comment in their guestbook. Just because you decide you want to drop me a comment or add me as a friend does not mean i have to return the favor. Especially if I have no clue who you are. _________________ |

If I get a good sized comment (say, a paragraph or so), that's actually helpful/says more beyond "omg link is hawt!!!1drawhimwithme!!!one", I'll usually take a glance over at the commenter's gallery.
I rarely comment because I'm awful at it, but I do try to say what I like (and rarely, what I dislike) about the piece.

"OMG SO K00L!!!! DRAW JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!" No. I only care if they keep going "Cool, are you gonna draw Justin?" "Neat picture, have you started Justin?" "So will you draw me Justin?!" NO.
People who flip through my sketchbook and on every page "Who's that?...oh...who's that?....oh....Who's that?...oh" Stop asking! You obviously don't know who these people are, the name means nothing to you. I should go back to writing the name on every picture like I used to do. Even then half the people never noticed. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I think i've commented on at least on of yours! If i haven't, i'm ashamed. You really are a great artist and i love your stuff. What i don't understand, is how people can be so clueless and naive with comments like that. My god, i hate those. Thank god i don't get many comments in general, therefore i don't deal with that to much
If i ever really like someones style and thinkg i would want them to draw something for, i get their e-mail and type out an e-mail explaining what i would be asking for, and that it's only a request, it's original, blah blah. Why would i want someone to draw me a pic of Hiei if they're that good at drawing!? I'd want an original done! And i find it really rude when people ask for request on their comments. Especially when it's just simply "Will you do a request for me? Will you draw me with so and so?" That is just soooo rude to me. Why would you do that?!
But yeah, i don't comment as much as i'd like to. And when i want to, it's usually when the AP is overflowing and needs attention, and by the end of it i'm just so sick of the looking at the site i won't comment and walk away for awhile, lol. I try to comment on things as they go through the AP, nice thing about that. We get to be the first ones to comment if we remember, lol. I did for beastofoblivion today, and pienemien ^_^ I love being able to comment, then approve, i just want to laugh at all those kids that go "HAHA! FIRST COMMENT!" bite me! But when i do comment, i tend to make it really long, sometimes...to long? I just think if oyur going to comment, put more into it than "Nice job, i like the colors" Talk to them like they aren't some secret agents or something.
I mean the artist are people to. |

People who are so good they make me want to stab them with a pen and throw ink at them. I should know better than to look through Pu-Sama's gallery late at night. Grrrr! I don't even like most anime style stuff. I wanna be Pu. (shut up, "then practice", I know! But I'm too lazy...and if there's one thing I hate more than over-saturated anime, it's over-saturated bad anime...And I, for one, will not contribute to the problem *ahem*excuse*ahem*)
This has been Fallen's sleep-deprived, jealousy-driven post of the night. Thank you.

It's a decent way to get exposure (I tend to recommend it for newbies), but when/if they start expecting (or, heaven forbid, demanding) people to return the favor, they're going too far.
Sometimes I keep thinking that I might just start deleting "peeve" type comments. Can't really bring myself to do it though, I mean, do we think that most newbies and rabid fankids would even understand why a person might choose to do something like that?
It's not like the spam and fankid comments I get (few as they are) break any rules, it's just that they're as helpful as never having been submitted in the first place.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I hate going into a section and seeing a line of pics titled just "Squall" or "Inuyasha." I'm much less likely to look at them that way. I usually just skip down the row to the next pic with an original title. Some of them are really good, too! I know everything can't have an exciting and original title and pretty much everyone is gonna have something with a generic title. But a little description in picture names wouldn't hurt.
Sorry, just frustrated at the moment. |

I have one picture in my gallery called 'awww.. inuyasha ^.^', and it has had 1330 view where as other pictures of mine usually get a 100 and sometimes 200 views. It's a little depressing, but the comments on that particular picture are so lame, maybe it's all for the best. |

Yeah, I would rather not have any comments than a bunch of idiot fangirls fighting over the character.
Heh, just thought that for some people thinking up a name other than "Inuyasha" would involve more thought and effort than the picture itself. |
This site has gotten too large for there to be no control over what's submitted, and if it were to continue, it could easily end up like DA (with a very small fraction of decent submissions and every image is gone within a minute)
you dissing DeviantART? *shakes head* Da's got pleanty of good art. It's not all quick sketches. They have a "scraps" section for those anyway! Many people on FaC have an account with DA. I see a LOT of people who do that. I thinkif FaC ended up like Da now? that's be great ^^ |

Heh, look at my signature. See the link that says "My Gallery"? It's my DeviantART gallery that's over a year old and has been maintained until submitting the most recent piece today. Yes I was dissing it, but does that mean I won't use it? No. I like a lot of the features (reply to comments, devwatch, journal, etc.) However, even you have to admit it's huge with the proportion of crap to good art being enormous. And you can't just look at the favorites because most are skewed to popular subjects/styles while other good art gets barely any comments.
But if I want good art and only good art, I go to Epilogue. If I want good advice, I go to Epilogue. DA is a gallery site, decent enough for its purpose. But pardon me if I work on a piece for months only to have it ten pages back by the end of the day with 3 comments and am slightly frustrated with that.
Oh, and at the time I wrote what you quoted, there was no scraps section. Even now, a lot of people still submit every little doodle they do as a real deviation. If FAC ended up like DA, I would have to murder someone because I use FAC because it's specifically for fanart. No one can bitch about my stuff being fanart when they're on a fanart site. I've been pondering ways to mix my current subject matter of choice with some element of fantasy and attempt an Epilogue gallery, just to see if I can do it. 'Least then I wouldn't have to assault my monitor when I see my stuff getting 2 comments and a 5 minute trendy doodle getting 15....
Now the site I would openly insult and say was absolutely worthless is Elfwood, but that's a whole other issue. Different sites for different strengths and weaknesses. DA is huge with some very good artists (Enayla, Nimra, Pu-Sama, etc.) but for every Nimra there's a hundred kids flooding doodles. And I accept that, I just don't want FAC to be that way. S'all. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
pardon me if I work on a piece for months only to have it ten pages back by the end of the day with 3 comments and am slightly frustrated with that.
God I can only wish anymore! Ive gone from 500 to 900 views to 27 on a FAC shirt design, but whats really pissing me off is that for months theres been the talk of "FAC Merch", well artists, your getting a site to post your stuff for free...cough up a picture! so you dont get paid, you get your work recognized (and dont tell me you guys actually trying to live off the incomes of your art, even if your damn good, arent starving). put your copyright, signature, whatever...put some art up d*mnit! just one friggin piece!
yeah I got a d*mn good job to support myself, but Id love to have my comic and Angels make it. hey why not put'em on a tee...so I dont get paid, theyll get seen. boy thats a no brainer. yeah I get fanart of my comic, but I swear if this comic makes it in syndication and mattel or someone else comes along and makes Angels dolls out this comic, Ill still be here screamin' that this site is showin' your work (good or bad) for free....help it out, and mayby your own career in the process!!! _________________ 'It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. Yes, send me something, people! We have enough with the Angels to take the store public soon, but everyone loves a big selection.
As for the views, it depends a little bit on when you submit. 'Cause I submitted three pictures late at night that were probably approved sometime in the morning and they each got something like 10 views in a span of three days. Whereas the Nikki/Taime thing got over fifty in a couple hours submitted in the high traffic hours. Or maybe we should all just title our pictures INUYASHA. Sure, we'd get lots of angry comments, but people would look. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

My pet peeves are when people are just mean to others about their art. There are people who don't draw well, but they at least try. I just started drawing on paint and my 3 pictures that I did on paint took me more than 5 hours a piece to finish. And its hard to get that stuff right, so when some people are just flat-out mean to other people especially about using paint, it kind of makes you mad. Not everyones perfect. Also when people get really brutal about their "bishies". Like tinystarkitten said her friend was gonna kill me "quote un-quote" cause Meredianna just drew a normal pic of Seto Kiaba for me, and that's where Lasher's picture "to all the fangirls and derpressed goths" pic comes into focus. Lasher was right. Well enough of my rambling, those are my 2 pet peeves, anyone else have them? ^_^ |

Real person fanart peeve:
When people draw a photo that's been done a million times before. Morrison anyone? Hell, I've drawn that photo too, I just don't post it (because it's old and has been done enough times before...). That's not to say you can't do one a hundred other people have, but at least do it somewhat differently. Very tired of seeing the most popular images over and over...

Heres what i hate about some people reaction when they see some fanart:
for example they see a picture sumone made , of his charecter killing their fave anime char , they get angry and and post such comments as: "Wtf" " u must die"
..................... whats wrong with ppl these a days?they became so obsessed with anime char's to the point they post such comments like this "U MUST DIE" sounds like a horror movie.. lol.. ppl have the right to draw such pics anyways , and if they dont like em, they can knock their heads to the wall , 10 times repeatedly o.O
another thing i dont like:
when they give some comments in a bad way , like : " i couldnt even tell whats that !! i wonder how u got all those comments ?" <-- the pic with most comments .. *it didnt get most comments, its acutally a spam kinda like any1 could do the same thing* its kinda depressing to get such a comment .. or .. " good pic of aeris and cloud , BUT GAH WHY AERIS?!" then why did u comment dearie? <-- yes i got this comment <_< ............ and another 1 " U CANT DRAW " <-- i saw this sumwhere
but the only good thing : criticism ina good way comments * which helps me improves my drawings* which I RARELY get .. *sigh* .. well i got it twice at least!
