Alright. I know it's really not likely to happen, because of obvious things such as... money. But, I was just thinking today about how much fun it would be to have a FAC convention. I mean, choose a place where the majority of FAC members are (others could travel) and then get some place and we all meet there and have name tags with our FAC screen names and you could walk around and be, like, "hey! There's ren_fan!!" lol. Rolling eyes
I know... it couldn't happen... but it would be fun, right? One big art convention. We could show off all our pics and stuff. Even do cosplay if anyone wanted to.
Alright. So, FAC doesn't really have money now... but what if we started a donation fund now and got to be a bigger site (even though FAC is pretty big already!) and had a convention in a few years! Very Happy
Please don't be pessimistic about my idea, k? I'm just musing here. lol.
Comment if you want.

There was discussion of this a long time ago. The problem is most of the FAC users are between 12 and 20 with school, jobs, and parents to deal with. I know some parents are really cool about taking their kids to big conventions, but a little website get together would be a bit harder to manage I would think. However, in a few years when the majority of the site has grown up a bit, it may be possible.

Another problem is that as people get older, their interests and responsibilities change. There's a lot of people who were here in the beginning of FAC that aren't anymore for various reasons. And a lot grow out of fanart, run out of time to draw, get new interests, etc. It is possible, and several art websites do it. But it's really a wait and see type of thing.

Personally, I think it'd be cool and would do my best to get there. It would have to be a place with more to do than just the get together, though. Preferably with a lot of stuff to do that doesn't cost money. Meeting at Disneyland would in theory be really cool, but much harder for a lot of people to manage. Portland (Oregon) has a day every month where all the galleries are open for free, and there's the waterfront, Pearl District, various other things that don't cost much, if anything. Someplace like that (though a more central location would be better) is ideal.

Scheduling it to go along with another big event could work, as well. Epilogue is having a party at Dragon Con. That gives more incentive to get some people there instead of meeting my sorry ass. Very Happy It's really a wait and see type of thing and doesn't cost much, depending on what people want to do. Depending on the size of the group, something like a convention room isn't needed. As long as someone knows the city, it's easy to find places groups can meet up that you don't have to rent. Other than that, it's really up to each person to get there, get a room (though I'm sure several FAC members would be fine with sharing), and eat.

Judging from the average age of people, I'd say anything is at least a couple years off.

Most likely. I know if I asked my parents "Ma, Dad, can I go to an FAC convention to meet all my online friends?" They'd shackle me and hack my computer into pieces. But it would be an AWESOME idea if we could all get together, so who knows? Maybe in a few years it could be possible? ^_^

I think timing it to go along with another event would be most effective. That way those who want to go to the con or are already going can do that, and the other people can find something else to do. Hell, some FAC members have tables at a lot of those events anyway. If I asked to go to ____Con I could probably manage. Getting all the FAC people together n' doing stuff would be a bonus. Do it a couple days early or after or evenings during it. Whatever. It may also get more people to want to go, since there would be a definite big event than just meeting people. Smile The trick would be figuring out which Con was the best location and time.

Ya.. having it coincide (coinside..?) with another CON is a really good idea. Hadn't really thought about that..
But ya, I know a lot of the people on here are younger. But, I mean, we have a lot of members who I'm sure could go. We should do a petition or something. lol.
Of course, we'd have to talk to Denis about this though. It would be so much fun if it actually happened.... lol.
And what you were saying about people who grow out of fanart..? Well, then that just means they're not really part of the site anymore. Laughing
Cost is the main thing though. We need something that is afordable.
WTF?

Thats not a bad idea at all though, but yeah i agree with Fallen a great deal, i don't think it would ever happen but it would be cool Laughing The cosplay sounds kewl, i could image some of the people on FAC dressing up with as their characters or frusona/screen names like example (CheshireGoddess) I would dress as a cheshire or as one of my characters, like wise for everyone else, ah but its only a little idea Cool Rolling eyes I wouldn't mind meeting a few people from this site though Smile

*Big grin* You'd love it here, Gray. Really, it's not all that big, they just say it is. It depends on where you live. ^-^

Man, if only I were a couple of years older, I'd go in a heartbeat. I'd make sure I'd be able to go once I get into college, but that's a few years off ;_;.

It wouldn't have to be official. If some people wanted to get something together as early as next summer at one of the cons, that could work. Ya know, even if it was just East Coast people or members from around that general area (plus ones who were going to the Con anyway). As long as someone wanted to take the responsibility of figuring out where to meet, what to do, and who was planning on going... There are SludgeMeets all the time in Vegas, LA, some Midwest locations where members take it upon themselves to say "Hey, we're meeting up at such n' such place at 8pm, any other people wanna come?". Soichi has flown in from Japan a couple of times, though I doubt our international members would care to do so. WTF?

I'll be free pretty much all of next summer. But I don't exactly live in Con-headquarters, so preferably if someone lives in or near one of the cities... But as far as planning n' stuff, I can do that and probably make it just about anywhere as long as it's in the country.

Yeah, i was just going to say. Denis said i could go to one of the CON's with him if i do my trip next summer and at the right time. I've never been to one so i'm curious. lol. It would be really cool, but having out own convention is just way off. Ever thought about just setting up a table at a convention? That would also gather more attention towards FAC which i'm sure denis would like. And given a reason for a bunch to gather.

Alot of people on here i all ready plan to go meet sometime in the next year or two. Hell, once i get my own place, i've made it known some are more than welcomed to stop by and crash for a weekend and hang out.

Megan, if i had to go dressed up, it would either by like one of Jay's pictures or Lexars? lol. Think it would click? lol. Razz

I dunno if I could make the one in April. Unless it's a long weekend or spring break or something. It is nearby. Drive up Friday evening n' leave Sunday evening... That puts me, Denis, and Carter in the area. Oh, and Nate? Maybe Li could drag his ass up north. Razz The August one I could probably get to, depending on the college I go to.

I'm just gonna imagin a scene where a nine year old kid asks his parents about this...

"Mom, Dad, can I go to a convention to meet a bunch of people on the internet?"

"Dammit no!"

O.O Too bad I'm only 11 or I would so want to meet all of you. Cool I doubt my parents would let me go anywhere with people from the internet. And it would depend where it was, if I could persuade them.

I'm so glad that everyone agrees with me about this Razz
I'm 15, and I talked to my parents about it and they would probably get me to.. well, wherever we have something. lol. I think it would definitely have to be during the summer though.. seeing as the majority of us on here are still in school (I think..?)
And ya, I wasn't thinking of having our own convention. That would be insane WTF?
A table at a convention would be good, because then whoeve showed could set their art up there if they wanted..
It's too bad that we can't all meet, seeing as there are younger kids on here. But, at least the older people could meet. And who knows, when the rest of you get older, and if you're still on FAC, you can get together ^^

Don't worry people.. When I am rich and famous I'll buy you all a mansion to stay in. Heck because I'm such a nice guy I'll pay for everyone's private plane ticket too. We could go there and we could have bouncy castles and s**t loads of booze and party poppers and camels and stuff. Yeaah that would be so fun. A whole mansion to ourselves. Music literally blasting alllll night long... Cool

I can't wait
Who wants to come Razz
