dude this is why i want to drive. i've been waiting for the rerelease of donnie darko since i read about it months ago, but i have no one to go with and can't get into nyc by myself (or even the movie, since i'm 16 and it's rated r). i just watch my own dvd of it for now. i guess i'll buy the special edition when it comes out.
garden state- i adore zach braff. that kid is just so incredibly awesome. i was so excited for this movie and it rose above my expectations. the writing was excellent- the characters were very real and interesting, and the story was simple but sweet and surprising. it was very funny, but often in a more subtle way, and the whole production was rather surreal. i loved it and decided i'd be buying it five minutes into the movie.
bubble boy- just saw it today. i told myself i'd never see it since it looked stupid. but it was on comedy central, and uh jake gyllenhaal... yea no other reason was needed. it was actually really funny. i was cracking up at some parts. it was really strange and nonsensical but that was ok. a lot of the lines were quite clever. some cool cameos, and again, jake gyllenhaal- looking sexy even with that bad haircut. _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |
Aliens Vs. Predator
A horrible dissappointment. I mean, it just doesn't figure or come out well. It just doesn't quite do justice to the Aliens and Predator franchises.
First off, the whole movie was boring, it focused more on how to get to the damn temple/pyramid thing and wondering what the f**k is going on, then it did on action and suspense. There's about two or three action sequences in the entire movie, only one in which lasts for more than two minutes. Did I mention the suspence didn't drag out? Nope, no suspence whatsoever.
It's too bad the movie focused on the humans wondering what the hell is going on, because by the time they figure out what's happening... they're all dead. I'd of liked it more if the humans would have figured it out earlier, with more action, rather than parading around aimlessly through the temple, getting killed. Did I mention that all of the problems in the movie were caused by the humans? Yup, pure human intelegence at it's best. Oh yeah, two of the three Predators die within the first five minutes of their appearance in the temple. Well... s**t.
The Predator's visor effects were a dissappointment. It looks like they just touched up minor parts of the 1987, Predator. It doesn't look all that great. I wish they would have changed it, and innovated it a little. It all just looks outdated. They did however, do a good job in applying all of the Predator's elements. Like weapons, cloaking and other stuff. For the most part it's all good.
I don't know what the hell happened... It looks like they made the humans idiots. Like they all shared the same brain and objective - f**k things up and get killed. Also, with the first Alien/Predator encounter they seemed to make the Alien 10x stronger and smarter, and the two Predators 10x stupider and weaker. Then vise versa for the last half of the movie. Yeah...
For the most part the movie makes sense. The Predators are hunters and come to earth every 100 years to hunt the imprisoned Aliens who are kept there as prey. Then, some things don't make too much sense. Like why the hell the Predators haven't improved their weapons from the hundreds of thousands of years they've hunted. (This is referring to the flash back and the pyramid being created by the first civilization.) But whatever, most people don't care about these things.
Did I mention the action sucked? Well, it wasn't the best, it wasn't the worst, it's just medicore. Theres about two or three action scenes and they all were short. Not to mention two of the three Predators got pwned by one Xenomorph. In the same scene...
But that's only the first of the problems that lead up to the biggest disappointment of all: THERE WERE NO PREDALIENS! Actually there was one, at the very end of the movie, an alien erects out of the wounded Predator's chest inside the Mothership and then... THE MOVIE FRIGGIN ENDS! Well... the one thing I wanted to see in AVP was saved for the sequel. Which I hope won't be as bad as this movie. They should have just saved this as a "fan-fiction" because that's essentially what it is. The movie doesn't, in any way, tie into any of the original franchize's storyline. Oh, and there's a little critisism about why the Aliens are so aggressive over hundreds of thousands of years of being hunted. You'd expect them to fear the Predators. Nope.

Sorry to quote your whole thing there... I havn't seen the movie myself, and I probably won't. It's a disappointment to watch these kinds of movies. As a kid I liked the Predator movies, not so much the the Alien series though. Just like I loved Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy vs Jason made me wanna throw a rock at the tv. Nothing can ever really compare to the originals... and trying to bring them back in this day and age... just makes it all look so sad and pathetic. It's like Jordan Knight releasing New Kids on the Block remixes..... sad...... very sad. _________________ |

this film called the ice storm was on TV and considering it had a big list of recognisable names it was one of the most boring movies i've ever seen. |

Hmm, let's see...
Gothika - I know it may be sad, but that movie scared the crap out of me... I wasn't expecting that... I don't know what I was expecting actually, but I wasn't expecting to be freaked out... Yeah, and in spite of being terrified, I liked it...
Event Horizon - Actually, I saw it on TV and only caught half of it because I was on here *grin*... I liked it, despite the fact that it got VERY disturbing near the end...
13 Going On 30 - It was cute... wasn't spectacular or anything, but it definitely had it's moments... and I think, because I'm a complete and utter sap, I cried...
Cold Mountain - well, part of it, my parents were watching it while I was on... here... think I'm on her altogether too much?? It wasn't too bad, but personally I'm not all for those war/disaster movies that centre on love stories (Titanic, Pearl Harbor) but maybe that's just me...
Hmm, I know that I've seen more, but I just can't think of them... I need to see a movie in a theater... the nearest one is a 1/2 hour drive away, and, well, I don't drive... I remember when my boyfriend worked in a theatre (well, he still does, but I moved a couple months ago... still waiting for him to come) and we got free movies with popcorn and pop... cheap way to go out when you're dirt poor... |

Despite my best interests, I went and saw AvP....God, my head hurts... Is it just me, or does director Paul Anderson little kiddy-fy every franchise he touches... Remember Mortal Kombat? The bloodiest sickest game of it's time... remember the PG movie that ol' Paul put out? How about Resident Evil? (which I own for the Milla Jovovich factor only) Now he makes a family friendly aliens/predator movie. I saw 7 and 8 year olds loving this movie. Don't get me wrong, I loved em when I was 7 and 8 too, but I was equally scared of them as well. Notice you don't see not 1 human die in AvP? As soon as the death comes, it cuts to another seen or a blood splash... WTF!!??? And unfortunately, the predators looked like guys in big suits, really big suits. No where near as good looking as the original predator waaayyy back in 87. The fight scenes? Pshaw! I believe the way to make a monster scary is to keep a lot of it up to the imagination. Show a full monster, and it comes off as a guy in a suit. But these fight scenes were way to fast and up too close. You couldn't even tell what was going on. At least the Aliens looked halfway decent. You could say this flick was the biggest dissapointment I've had in a while.
On a lighter note, a new predator video game is coming out, whereas you play as the predator in the US in the 1930's. Very interesting.-R |

Actually I think Resident Evil is the best videogame to movie out there and I for one really enjoyed it*I love resi and I love zombies/ghouls so figures* apart from the fact it had no recognisable resident evil characters in it but still good. Very like the game. Apocalypse is gonna have the Resi 3 cast though so it'll be interesting to see how that works out.
I saw chronicles of Riddick the other day which I guess was OK/so-so I expected it to totally suck like pitch black. It was a choice between watching that or the cinderella story and because I hate chick flicks or girly romance/romantic comedy there was no choice really. It is a boys movie though and was there even a scene with no special effects I don't think so and tons of fighting scenes in it. For anyone with epilepsy they should so not go and watch that enough flashing lights in it to rival Mecha animes and the like. |
