Ok, I have been a Metallica fan all my life, but I just bought their new album, St.Anger, and let me tell ya something, I have never been so pissed off in my life!!! I had to burn the CD. I truely think that Metallica sold out on that one, a day that i never thought would come....dose anyone else feel the same way as I do?

Meep... I really only like their Black Album and S&M-- and a few other songs from the other albums. Ride the Ligthening was nice too... Maybe all of their old stuff. Not a big fan of Garage Inc... But, er, I love Low Man's Lyric. Probably my fav song from them ^_^

Once they did the song for Mission Impossible 2, I think their entire sound just died... But yes, I was rather upset. I haven't heard anything from St. Anger, or maybe I heard one song that went "tic toc" or something along those lines. It made me want to die... <_<

First of all, they didn't sell out, cause I havn't heard them ONCE on MTV or the RADIO..... In order to sell out, you have to SELL to somebody....

Guessed my point of view yet?

No, I don't think they sold out. This was the same stuff that went on when they changed their sound for Load, and Reload. I was a little dissapointed in their new sound, but I still bought the CD. Despite not sounding as good as they used to, they still sound a hell of a lot better than a lot of the "sold out" bands i hear ALL the time on the radio.

Besides, the old style wouldn't sell now days. They knew that. How many speed metal bands that still do the 4 minute solos and 12 minute songs out there? None. -R

Wait a minute. "St. Anger" isn't the new album. "Some Kind of Monster" is. Metallica lost it. I hate to say it but they are in serious trouble. I predict a break up within the next five years. Five or 10 years, Metallica is gone, and everyone does their own thing.

MTV sucks ass. I wouldn't expect them to run any good s**t lately. The radio plays "Some Kind Of Monster" CONSTANTLY and their old style WOULD sell, but they're not using the OLD style. Velvet Revolver is basically, guess what, Guns N' Roses and they were No. 1 on the charts. Think about it, you abandon your old style, you conform to the modern equivilant. They need the cash, so they'll change. But the fans who knew them in the good ol' days are going to notice and CARE. I mean, I will never like Audioslave as much as Rage Against the Machine because RATM was the ORIGINAL. RATM and Soundgarden. Now, formerly RATM is playing more subtle tunes than the original heavy metal guitar and bass. Metallica is doing the same. Face it, it's the industry. I hate the idea of changing my style to impress anyone besides the people who like the originality. It might have to happen though.

Metallica fell victim to "music evolution". It's a nice little theory of mine involving sales and your music. You change, or evolve, as some execs. will state, to supply the public with selling albums. You change your tastes to satisfy others. Don't expect anything ground breaking from Metallica in the near future.

Crusifer, some of my solos last for 5 minutes. It's more difficult, and that is why people refuse to do them. The majority of bands today are pop punk posers, and they learn 3 power chords, get out there, and wow a bunch of angsty teenagers.

Metallica is becoming the Avril Lavigne of the metal industry. Keep on changing....conform to the mass taste..soften up a little.....

Kirk has been slacking, as of late. I'm no longer impressed. Never will be unless they go back to their old style. Old school Metallica will always be better then the New.

"St. Anger" was not the "best album ever", as many new fans will say(posers.).
"Some Kind Of Monster"....The song, likewise titled, has NO SOLO. Kirk, what the Hell were you thinking?

Face it, the glory days are gone. Metallica will always have the fans, but they're not even impressed anymore. Too much change.

I miss Kirk!!! Sad or his solos atleast. They were so awesome...

Hehe, when my cousins and I were younger, we used to call him Juilee... not sure why exactly, but it was fun nonetheless.

I would buy their albums if they still had the old sound. I really do miss it.

It's not a particularly 'new sound'. They were trying to "return to their roots". Or so they claim. The low production, weird drums, all that. Not a fan.

But I was never big on Met anyway, I just can't even tolerate their new crap.

Personally I like Metallica....true, I'm too big of a fan of thier new stuff, but I'm pretty okay with it, I'd rather them sound like their older stuff, but that's not for us to decide....o.<

It's true, I too do prefer the old stuff... Pre Black album days (I never liked it that much either). As for the "music evolution" due to sales... that I'm not so sure about. Metallica sold far more albums before they EVER were played on the radio and such, therefore they would have no reason to change their sound for a bunch of people who may or may not buy their stuff.

I think every single Metallica album sounds quite a bit different than the album before it. I think it IS a "musical evolution", but a natural progression from what they've always been doing. Do I like it as much? No. Do I still like it however? Yes.-R

James needs to start drinking again. Rolling eyes

(What? S'true. A lot of musicians were at their best while killing brain cells and then go downhill after cleaning up, either because their inspiration came from the abuse or because they're too afraid to really "let go" in their writing for fear of revisiting old scars n' falling off the bandwagon. A shame really.)
